In 1Password Mini, UI fails to update after changing a password's vault location, &onemorething
After editing a newly saved password in 1Password Mini to change the vault location, the UI's state never updates to the new location until the pinned window is closed and reopened. Though, you can see that the location updates, if you have the main UI open.
On another note:
I frequently create new passwords, and it's a bit frustrating that I can't convert a login to a password from the new 1Password Mini (relates to apple-issues#3261.). I understand that your new goal is to keep 1Password Mini, mini, but it's just not as quick to "activate" the main 1Password window from Mini. Yes, you can from the settings cog in the 1Password Mini, yes you can use Alfred, but this takes more time than an "Open in 1Password" button right in the 1P Mini UI.
TL;DR: A first-level button in 1Password Mini to activate the main UI would achieve the goal of keeping Mini, mini, without compromising accessibility to functionality.
Thanks for listening!

@evanB - thanks for the feedback and suggestion! With regard to a button to open the main app, it's something we can consider. The mini icon in the menubar has always worked this way: option-click and choose "Open 1Password," so I'm not sure we'll be changing this. But I'm not sure what you mean by "convert a login to a password." This hasn't ever been a thing that could be done automatically; did you mean the reverse? Convert password to login? If so, click "Pin on screen" for the Password item in question, then "Convert to Login" button will appear at the top of the pinned Password item. Hope that helps! :)

Whoops, I meant "convert password to login". The Convert to Login button wasn't applying in some instances in 1P Mini. I wasn't able to reproduce when I tested right now. But from my understanding this is tracked under apple-issues#3261 from this post.

In my workflow, I pretty much exclusively use the
⌥⌘\
shortcut to activate 1P Mini. Hence, my cursor isn't close to the menubar icon (which I have disabled anyway), and that would also require holding alt as you mentioned. I've also moved the default position of the window to the lower right corner of my screen. My suggestion is that if you want to strip more functionality out of 1P Mini to keep it lean:- the Convert to Login button could be replaced with a link to "Open 1Password"
- or the Convert to Login button activates the main app and converts the password to a login
It's a pretty frequent task, so it would be a nice addition.
@Lars What's the decision behind why Convert to Login doesn't automatically enter edit mode?

I'm not able to reproduce the issue described in #3261 (which is closed as fixed). Here are the steps I took to successfully convert from a password item (one which has a URL saved on it) to a login item:
- Open mini.
- Browse to the Passwords category.
- Select a password item (one with a URL on it).
- Pin on Screen.
- Click the Convert to Login button.

After the item is converted to a login there is an edit button available. I'm not sure it is safe to assume that everyone wants to edit after converting.

It shouldn't have to be... I'd be curious to hear how you're ending up with so many password items that need to be converted to logins? If you generate a password and then use that password on a web page 1Password should be prompting you to save a new login / update an existing login (depending on if 1Password thinks the form is a password change form or not). If you save a login from that prompt 1Password should automatically clean up the password item.

As of today, neither am I.
Thanks for the insight on the Convert to Login feature. That's what I figured, but would maybe make a good candidate for an advanced user plist preference.

Agreed. I completely forgive 1Password for missing non-password form elements, as I understand how challenging it is to detect this info. I have a theory: I think it might correlate with websites that bifurcate your email and password across different pages during account creation. For example, some sites don't ask for a password on their sign-up page, and instead send you an email verification. You click the link, your browser opens a new tab, and the site asks you to create a password.
I'm registered on over 1,000 sites, so I've seen a lot of sites with a flow like this. I think the most recent example—the one that prompted me to make this forum post—was Monoprice. I can attempt to reproduce, but since I created my account while in the checkout flow, it might involve buying something else!

This is possible. However, even in a case like this, 1Password should still prompt you to save your login information after generating a password in the second step of the signup form. So you would still end up with a Login item in 1Password, rather than with a Password item.
If you use the password generator several times during login, however, you would end up with some extra password items to cleanup afterwards. Is it possible that this is what happened?

Hmm... I'll try to document a clear test case when it happens again as I don't recall.
I'm pretty sure I only used it once. I looked at my deleted items, and there are multiple records of the monoprice password. It's the same password for each one, as I only generated one and reassigned its vault location). However, those duplicates in the trash were from identifying the UI bug regarding when a user changes the vault location. I didn't realize that's how 1P handles moving records between vaults.

@evanB - ah, yeah -- there's really no such thing as what most people would consider a straight-up "move" to be, owing to the different encryption keys for different vaults. Instead, what happens is that the record is copied (just as if you'd used the Copy command instead of Move) into the destination vault, then the original record in the source vault is trashed. You do need to empty the trash yourself manually, but that's the procedure that occurs when you choose "Move."
