Organization and finding items in 1Password

Bring back the tags or folders whatever you want to call it. I have used 1password for years and love it but also spent a lot of time on organization and this is a VERY LARGE back step to not have them. When organizing thousands of passwords this Should have been included to begin with. Like new features but this is a break the bank deal when the standalone version worked fine as it was and so did the mini version. Paying for a subscription should actually have more. Please let us know when this is corrected it is greatly hampering productivity.

I'm sorry the lack of tags in mini has given you such trouble, @cfreeman. Would you mind elaborating on how they help you improve efficiency? I personally use them quite heavily in the main app, but never have used them much in mini as I've always stuck to using my bookmarks and just filling with
Ctrl + \
so I rarely need to filter or search in mini. Does it help you filter down multiple matches on one site? Maybe you make heavier use of Go & Fill? Mini definitely is something we want to spend some time refining in the future, so any specific feedback you can provide now will certainly help us ensure we're keeping your needs in mind when we get down to work. :chuffed:0 -
basically i have many logins for the same site for what i do and sorting them allows me to quickly get to what i need without going through 25-50 logins. i can have them categorized/tagged/folders and just get to the ones i need without bringing up everything and having to hunt through a very long list of what comes up. it currently just brings up a long list of everything, secure notes, logins, cards everything. when it is sorted all i had to do is go to the tag and pull it up like a folder organization and get right to where i wanted. fyi. not on a windows machine. and putting in the tags:tagname did not bring up anything. it worked flawlessly before but the updated blew it all away. i am not even going to update my other machine till this comes back. is just too difficult and more keystrokes when sorting through so many logins, notes, etc. in fact have typed a blanket name and had it bring up a list then clicked where it appeared the login is and it was a different login. same website name but different login. using bookmarks will not work when there are that many. takes too long to sort through, gotta read each one where as before just went to my tag and there was my shortlist bamm picked one of the 3 or 4 i wanted and off i went. so basically less reading, less typing, less clicking and everything is not jumbled together. organizational by topic, by tag, by folder whatever anyone wants to call it. sorted is much better than just a long list where i have to type in the search bar everytime to find what i know i want. at login screens the list just goes on forever sometimes. so much easier to just click the mini, click the tag and go.
Also allows for not having to know the website just the name you gave the login. so can search by those names only. ie; bills then have your logins etc for bills under that without having to know website names and is all together in one spot for quick clicks.

@cfreeman: This discussion is in the Windows category of the forum, so it's regarding that version. I can split you off into a separate discussion if you're using something else, but it would be really helpful to know the specifics as far as what you're using, what you're trying to do, and what you're referring to. :)
Honestly, when you're saying stuff like this:
basically i have many logins for the same site for what i do and sorting them allows me to quickly get to what i need without going through 25-50 logins. i can have them categorized/tagged/folders and just get to the ones i need without bringing up everything and having to hunt through a very long list of what comes up. it currently just brings up a long list of everything, secure notes, logins, cards everything. when it is sorted all i had to do is go to the tag and pull it up like a folder organization and get right to where i wanted.
I get where you're coming from, but that doesn't really scale: you'd just be trading scrolling through items for scrolling through something else. That may seem more manageable at first, because you'd have fewer, but over time you'll end up with more and more to scroll through. That's why we put a lot of work into making search quick and convenient: because we're none of us going to end up with less stuff over time. Search scales, even with vaults with thousands of items. If you want "less reading, less typing, less clicking", using logical names for things and leveraging search is what will get you there.
As a concrete example, if you tag your bills with a tag called "bills", you can find them in a search for "bills".
We're exploring adding tags to the dropdown menu too though, and we'll keep working to make search results and UI work better, so thank you for your feedback in this area! :)

I do use names. nope search won't do it because it brings up everything with even a piece of that information. so need more granular into the vaults. ie selecting what vault to search. like organization better than constantly typing names. folder1 then item1, item2, item 3. i do software and coding and understand updates but this is a step backwards. this is like taking all the items in the container and throwing them on the floor then having to find the one you want when it would just have been easier to keep the containers and sort the items into those containers. liked the hierarchy better than the let's remember thousands of names and make everything top level instead of organized in groupings/folders/tags whatever anyone wants to call it. I do change all the time and like change. so if this is the way it is then great. but it was a surprise to loose all the work put into getting them tagged which would have been better as subfolders under the top level ones, to just have those tags become useless in the latest release. i see others have mentioned the same thing in doing searches to find this information. just clicked a link to get here when searching for the answer to the changes. so useless to organize things if we can't use it across the board. nope not trading scrolling in that magnitude because it is very easy to follow a hierarchy with groups. like having secure notes, credit cards. logins seperate that is a good top level but then has to get more granular which is what tags appeared to do and currently the list does not even honor that it puts everything in one long line so not even sorted by secure notes, credit card, logins anymore is just a top level list. almost looks like a filemaker database or really bad informix from years ago. can move this to mac area if needed but same goes for both systems. also tagging and searching is just more typing. it was very quick before to just click twice at most and not have to click plus type. anyway can contact me for more thoughts or ideas. can even get examples together.

@cfreeman: Yeah, I'm really not following you here. This isn't something we've changed in a recent update. You can absolutely organize your items using nested tags. And Secure Notes, etc. are all viewable in the sidebar:
If you're having trouble searching, some specific examples would be helpful to see if there's something we can do to improve it...but if you're just getting too many results, that sounds like you need to narrow your search further and/or use more useful names for things. For example, if you've set a lot of Login items with the word "login" in their title, searching for "login" will not be very effective for your dataset. That's not something we have any control over. But if you have specific examples and suggestions we can absolutely take those under advisement as we evaluate feedback from everyone. Cheers! :)
