How to prefer one login item above others
Comments

@Ben I'm using the Chrome extension and even though I have a favorite login (that's appears at the top of my list and is only one favorited) the auto-fill command (CMD+/) uses a different default.
Any ideas on how to fix that?

This thread is about 1Password for iOS. It sounds like your question may be about a different platform?

@Ben yes, I'm asking about the Chrome extension which only works on non-mobile devices. Are you suggesting I should create a new thread for my question? This is what Google yields for the corresponding search so I figured it would make sense to help your users in similar positions find the answer where the internet is most likely to take them.

Yes, but no worries: I've gone ahead and done it for you.

Our support is split into categories based on what product you're using. Since 1Password for Mac and 1Password for iOS are different products the answers for one are unlikely to apply to the other.
With 1Password for Mac the login item that has a
website
field most closely matching the URL you're currently viewing will have preference. Please make sure the URL in thewebsite
field on the item you want to be filled matches exactly with the page you want it filled on. If another item is still being selected it may help to make thewebsite
on that login more generic by removing everything after the first slash (e.g. cut it down fromhttps://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/105398/how-to-prefer-one-login-item-above-others
tohttps://discussions.agilebits.com/
).I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

I'm going to contradict Ben slightly so I do apologise both to you and Ben. He's definitely correct in that it will be the value stored in the website field but I do disagree with his suggestion of removing the path part of the URL for two reasons.
- The open-and-fill feature in 1Password relies on the stored URL loading a sign-in page. This is likely a specific page on the site and probably not one loaded by the homepage which is what you see if you only stored the domain e.g.
https://discussions.agilebits.com/
- 1Password currently does not factor in the path when deciding if there is a single best match.
Instead I would recommend you check each Login item for the site and ensure the stored URL in the website field is consistent over all. What I expect you will find is one item may have
https://facebook.com
and the other will containhttps://www.facebook.com
. When you visit Facebook it will loadwww.facebook.com
even if you attempt to visitfacebook.com
and if one Login item matcheswww.facebook.com
exactly it will be used over one that refers tofacebook.com
, even if the latter is a favourite. Staying with the Facebook example, they have a dedicated sign-in pagehttps://www.facebook.com/login
so if it were me I would update all of my Facebook items so they stored the same URL. That way they will always be considered equal which will mean 1Password will always ask before filling and if you want to use open-and-fill you should find it works because that URL loads the sign-in form.Does that help at all?
