can I log into a web site using 1password on a device that is not my own?
I am thinking about purchasing a license, but have a question. If I am at a friend's house and need to check a bank balance or pay a bill on a site using an account that I set up with a 1password-generated pw, is there a way I log in using 1password on a strange device?

Yes, with a 1Password Membership (not a license, which does not allow this) you could use the 1Password.com web app to access your data on another computer, even one that you don't own :+1: Of course, make sure that you actually trust the machine before you login, and select the This is a public or shared computer checkbox so your credentials won't be stored there ;)
