Generate Password doesn't create new login, "Convert to Login" workflow is cumbersome

Here's the scenario: I'm creating a new user account on a website. I've supplied my preferred username and open the 1Password plug-in to click "Generate Password". It dutifully generates a password, enters it into the field, and immediately saves it as a password, not a login. When I complete that page, 1Password used to detect that I'd just been creating a login and offers to save it as a login, but only one out of ~10 times accurately detects and offers to save this login.

(Even when it does, it still leaves a redundant password entry in addition to the login, and "clean up redundant passwords" function seems to be an tacit acknowledgement that this is a workflow problem... but I digress...)

Once 1Password has failed to detect a login creation (which again is 90% of the time), I must then go through what can only be described as an annoying and poorly conceived workflow of:

  1. Find the password that was created.
  2. Pin it to the screen, lest it disappear at any point during the following and I have to go back to step 1.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Close the Edit window. This appears to be the only way to get the "Convert to Login" button to appear.
  5. Click "Convert to Login."
  6. Manually enter the username (that it should have captured during the login creation process but didn't).
  7. Clean up the URL, which has usually been captured as something messy from mid-way in the login creation with all sorts of hashed values, etc.
  8. Save.

I understand that saving the password as a stand-alone password entry is a feature designed to ensure you don't lose a newly created password. But when creating a login fails so regularly, why is not EVERY password always showing a "Convert to Login" button? What is the utility of not having that button on every password entry? With such regular failures, is there not a better solution than having to go through the Find > Open > Edit > Close > expose the "Convert to Login" button > Edit > Save workflow?

Is there a setting or another button somewhere that I'm missing? Or is this just a workflow in need of improvement?

Thanks,
-Ray

Hi @raypedia! Welcome to the forum!

But when creating a login fails so regularly, why is not EVERY password always showing a "Convert to Login" button? What is the utility of not having that button on every password entry?

I have tested it here, and I do see the "Convert to Login" button in every Password entry. Can you please post a screenshot that shows the missing button in one of your Password items?
