Something (not) funny going on with CapitalOne website

Strange behavior from a site that's been rock solid over the years. Big Sur, latest Chrome, latest 1P for Browser.

When I go to capitalone.com (for Walmart credit card), I first get the horizontal login displayed momentarily then a "Something wrong/site down" error. However, if I'm quick enough to hit "Sign In" before the error page displays, I get a new location (https://verified.capitalone.com/auth/signin) and a different, vertical login page is displayed and stable. This is where the fun and games begin.

Sometimes both the username and password are filled in properly and I can login. Other times, both fields APPEAR to be filled in, but the Username field has a red notation "This field is required." below it, and the login attempt will fail. So how and why does the Username field sometimes just display the correct username (but it's not really there) and other times both the display and reality are in sync? Very odd behavior that I've never seen before (leaving aside the weird "Something wrong" screen when going to the base website address).

Thanks for any explanations and/or assistance you can provide.

  • Hey @williakz. I'm sorry about the trouble you're having with this Capital One page! What is the actual URL you're first navigating to? Is it

    https://verified.capitalone.com/auth/signin?relationshipId=18

    ?

This is the URL I grabbed from https://walmart.capitalone.com/, and I'm seeing that filling is working well there.

Hi @ag_michaelc, as I mentioned in my initial post it was when I went to plain old capitalone.com that I got the horizontal login display followed quickly by the "Something wrong" screen. I only mentioned it because I thought you guys reduced long, complex URLs to a simplified form for use in 1Password.

Anyway, yes, I do indeed navigate to the site you referenced to use the vertical login form. 1Password's stored website for my login is: https://verified.capitalone.com/auth/signin.
It's there that the Username field shows as already filled with my username but sometimes with the red "This field is required." note below the field. If I then have 1Password supply the password, I'm unable to log in. There's something weird going on between the contents display and actual filling of the Username field. I don't recall ever having issues with this account prior to the last week or so.

    Hey @williakz ,

I'm trying to follow your instructions here to reproduce the issue but things seem to work pretty well with the latest 1Password in the browser (and even better in the latest beta).

Have you tried saving a new login item on the page where you want it to autofill properly? Does the new login item still causes the issue?
In case it does, please provide us with an exact step-by-step description of where you go, where exactly do you click and when, what are the outcomes of each click etc. It should look like a set of instructions for us so we can replicate your exact steps.
