Taking over Google Docs shortcut

Why can't I change the browser shortcut for Cmd+Shift+X since it takes over for Google Docs Strikethrough... Even the browser plug-in is not consistent with the desktop app's shortcuts. Doesn't make any sense.

OS Version: 12.1

  • Hi @krusnof

This is customizable. :) In the extension's settings you can find this section:

To get there right click the extension's icon and then select Settings. I hope that helps!

    I checked that first thing

Which browser are you using? For me, with the Chrome extension (Brave browser) the option appears between the 'General' and 'Autofill' sections.

But I really don't understand why the desktop app has shortcuts in there that are different. Doesn't make sense from a UX perspective. and then each browser will need to be customized individually.

    Hey @krusnof ,

Shortcuts are the wild west of browsers. There are very little available shortcuts that vary between each browser and we do our best to offer the most relevant shortcut there that is available. In Chromium browsers (and Safari) it is CMD+SHIFT+X, and in Firefox it is CMD+. (Command + Period).

There's no easy shortcut that is available and works well on all browsers, which is why they are different between some browsers.
In Chromium browsers you can adjust the shortcut and try different things until you find one that works better for you, but in Safari that is not an option as of yet.

However, you can definitely use CMD+\ to utilize the extension in Safari instead of CMD+SHIFT+X. If you press CMD+\ it will trigger the 1Password 8 desktop app and allow you to unlock it (and the extension), and will autofill the page you're currently on, or display the autofill suggestions under the username/password field if there's more than one login entry for this website.

I need you to not take over Google Sheets default shortcuts in Safari. It was never an issue in the past, so it's a decision by AgileBits to do so... End of excuses and circumventions. Thanks much.

Great, so nothing will happen with this one. Thanks

  • That isn't a call that Yaron or I get to make, but I can say that Yaron has been advocating that this be improved.

Just came here to make this same complaint! I use that shortcut ALL THE TIME in google docs so this is really annoying especially since it wasn't an issue with previous versions of 1password. Can we at least make it customizable (i use safari).

  • Hi @Chipito:

Thanks for sharing. I've added your feedback to our internal issue on this.
