Are there beta versions (which work with 1Password 8) of the classic extension? https://support.1password.com/cs/1password-classic-extension/#step-2-install-the-1password-classic-extension

All I could find were these: https://support.1password.com/betas/#install-a-beta-release-of-the-1password-extension

But I really like the classic extensions which need access to the desktop app.

    Thanks!

Doesn't the classic extension work together with the 1PW8 desktop app? I thought so... 🤔

When I click on the 1Password icon in any browser (I use Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, Opera, and Brave), the 1Password 7 app starts, even though 1Password 8 is up and running.

Perhaps there's a setting somewhere I can change for the current classic browser extensions (not the X ones) to work with 1Password 8?

I'm just wondering that you were able to install both versions (7 & 8) on your system. When I installed 1Password 8 desktop app, 1Password 7 desktop app was automatically removed. 🤔

    As stated in https://1password.community/discussion/122136/1password-8-for-mac-early-access

After getting things up and running, drag /Applications/1Password 7.app to the Trash to avoid any confusion.

    (Emphasis mine)

So I guess it's possible to run both versions side-by-side.

And in the release notes https://releases.1password.com/mac/beta/ I found:

The updater no longer stores previous versions of the app in the Trash.

So maybe you installed 1Password 8 using a version prior to that change.

Ok. Sorry... You are talking about the Mac version. I'm only using the Windows version. And here 1PW7 is automatically removed when installing 1PW8.

Maybe you should remove 1PW7 manually to get the classic extension to work with 1PW8? I don't know for Mac...

That was a good idea, thanks! But sadly, it didn't work. I deleted the 1Password 7 app and the browser extensions stopped working:

Then I restored the 1Password 7 app and now it's working again.

But let's wait for someone from the team to confirm if there's a way for the classic extensions to work with the 1Password 8 app.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

    You're welcome! 👍

  • Hey folks,

I split your questions off into a separate topic.

The classic extension makes use of standalone (3rd party syncing) vaults and with those no longer being an option within 1Password 8 the classic extension would not be usable.

Our Founder, Dave Teare, posted a really informative outline of the reason for changing our support for standalone licenses here: https://1password.community/discussion/comment/601917/#Comment_601917

    Hey everyone,

I upgraded to 1PW8 from 1PW7 and the classic extensions dont work.
I am a licensed family user.

Does this mean I will be forced to install the 1PW8 full addon?

  • @namanshah

The classic extension is not supported. You'll want to install 1Password in your browser when using 1Password 8. It can live with or without the desktop app.

    1Password 8 is membership only.
