Safari extension disappeared

I updated to new version and installed extension in my browser. It has been working fine since version 8 came out but disappeared just a little bit ago from my browser. When I go to my extensions it's no longer there. I try to add the extension but it says it's already installed. When I open the extension from the add screen it just opens a window that gives instructions how to turn on the extension which is just going in a circle back to the extension in the browser which it does not exist.

  • Hi @My1Passwords:

If you quit Safari, then launch 1Password, then choose Help > Troubleshooting > Fix Missing Safari Extension, does that improve your state of play? Let me know!

That resolved my issue. Can I delete the safari extension in my applications folder? It doesn't seem to be anything but instructions.

  • Hi @My1Passwords:

The 1Password for Safari app in your Applications folder is what provides the 1Password extension in Safari, so it shouldn't be deleted.

I have the same problem with Safari, cannot install the extension even after I did what you suggested. I have the latest update on my new MacBook Air, what else can I do to resolve this issue?

Hey @Gaetcha. If the 1Password for Safari extension is installed in /Applications but does not appear in Safari > Preferences > Extensions, then let's try refreshing Safari's extension registrations manually with Terminal. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Close all open web browsers.
    2. Open the Terminal app on your Mac: https://support.apple.com/guide/terminal/open-or-quit-terminal-apd5265185d-f365-44cb-8b09-71a064a42125/mac
    3. Paste the following into Terminal and then press enter to run the command:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -f -R /Applications/Safari.app

    1. Open Safari > Preferences > Extensions and try to enable 1Password for Safari again.

Let me know how that goes!
