How to move my 1Password 8 app to new desktop computer?

Fairly new user of 1Password 8 Family account. I have the app on my current Win 10 computer, and browser extensions on my Android v 12 phone. My wife has hers on her Win 10 laptop, and a Galaxy Tab Android 12.

Do I simply download the app to the new computer, and sign in? Or do I add a new device, the new computer, and use the link?

Many thanks,
Jerry

    Hello @goofiness 👋

Thanks for this question! If you have a 1Password subscription, there's no need to move your 1Password data, as such (meaning, you don't have to move vaults around manually or anything like that).

It's as you said: all you'll need to do is 👇

    1. Download and install the app on your new computer
    2. Sign into 1Password on that device with the information contained in your Emergency Kit

and with that, our 1Password servers will deposit a file on that computer called the "local database," which stays in sync with all your other devices elsewhere.

The end result is that when you unlock the app for the first time on that new device, you should be greeted by all the items you've saved on other devices.

I hope this is helpful. Let us know how the installation goes, and we're here if you have questions or could use any help along the way!

    Hi PeterG_1P,
Thanks very much for the quick, and succinct advice. It will be a few days before I can get my new computer up and running. Once I get it going, I will let you how easy it was getting 1Password installed by following your directions.
