How to disable 1Password automatic updates using MacOS terminal?
Pretty much the title. I know this question has been asked before here (https://1password.community/discussion/97024/disable-automatic-update-check-via-script-or-command)
But I am unable to find the file that I need to edit. Where is it now?

Hello @ecadmin,
I'm Scott on the 1Password support team. It's nice to meet you.
Thanks for asking about disabling automatic updates for 1Password 8 for Mac. It's my pleasure to assist you with this today.
If you haven't already seen our About mobile device management support article, it may be helpful to you. Through a mobile configuration profile, 1Password provides an option to disable automatic updates that can be deployed through most MDM tools.
- The preference domain for 1Password is
com.1password.1password
. - Set
updates.autoUpdate
tofalse
.
I hope this information helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any questions.

Hey @ScottS1P.
I did go through that article and I understand what I have to do. However, I'm new to all of this and I just don't know how to find and edit that preference domain. Is it a file located somewhere? Could you explain how to set the updates.autoUpdate field to false?
Thanks.

Hello @ecadmin,
The process will vary depending on which MDM service (Intune, Jamf, Kandji, and so on) you are using, or how you are deploying the
.mobileconfig
configuration profile to your team. Our team aren't experts in using these tools, so your best bet would be to contact the support team for whichever MDM service your company uses and confirm the process with them.Thank you,

Hello @ecadmin,
It's not currently possible to control 1Password settings by editing a file on disk.
- The
.mobileconfig
profile files I was discussing before are something that must be activated in the system settings app and cannot easily be changed outside of an MDM solution. - 1Password does currently store some settings in a
.json
file, however this file will not be editable outside of the 1Password app, starting in the near future. Any workflow that relies on manually changing the file will likely be broken, and could result in some settings being reset to default if the file is changed outside of 1Password.
Thank you,
