A way to programatically change browser plugin preferences?

I work for a managed service provider and one of our clients workflows involves using Yubikeys. I'm aware thanks to this thread that this prompt can be disabled. However I'm wondering if there is a way to programmatically disable the "Offer to save and sign in with passkey" option within the autofill settings?

Whether it's updating an .xml file or adding arguments to the installer or even a registry key modification - I'd like to be able to change this without having to interact with each user individually on a manual basis.

Any help or expertise would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hello @JlenAMI! 👋

Thank you for the question! If you're the administrator of a 1Password Business membership then you can turn off the passkey prompt by turning off passkey item support for the entire account:

    1. Log in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com (in the browser, not the app).
    2. Click Policies in the sidebar.
    3. Click Manage under App Usage.
    4. Turn off "Passkey item support".

Turning off this option won't remove any passkeys that team members have already saved but they won't be able to use them to sign in anymore and they won't see the prompt. You can read more about app usage policies here: Manage team policies in 1Password Business

Let me know if that helps. 🙂

Thanks for the quick response, @Dave_1P

This brings another question to mind, if this is implemented for users that were already storing passkeys, will they not be able to use them at all afterward?

Thanks for the reply. If you turn "Passkey item support" off then users won't be able to use any saved passkeys to sign in anymore.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
