Secure Notes missing line breaks and feature request for turning off markdown in the browser

[1Password for Mac 8.10.50, 81050025, on PRODUCTION channel.]

Bugs:
1) Line breaks and line return not displaying properly. Markdown option is OFF in settings (as I've always had).

2) A massively annoying bug remains with all browser extensions also failing to not show markdown versions of secure notes, i.e. having the markdown OFF in the app, but the secure notes all show as if markdown was enabled in the browser extension views, thus completely garbled and unusable! (YEARS with this issue unfixed!)

Are these known bugs?

EDIT: For point 1 above... pressing the Edit button shows the text normally with line breaks/returns, but then pressing the Save or Cancel buttons still leaves the text rendered wrongly again, frustratingly.

  • Hello @jimthing! 👋

    I'm sorry that notes aren't being rendered properly in the latest version of the 1Password for Mac desktop app. I've been able to reproduce the issue using my own device when markdown formatting is turned off and I've filed an internal work item with our development team so that they can get this fixed.

    For the time being, enabling markdown is the best workaround for the issue.

    1Password in the browser operates independently of the settings in the desktop app and currently doesn't have a feature to turn off markdown formatting. I've let the team know that you'd like to see this feature built for the browser extension in the future. Thank you for the feedback. 🙂

    @Dave_1P Thanks re. point 1.

    re. Point 2: This is really frustrating as many of us simply don't want to use markdown in 1P, so I hope this can finally be reflected correctly in these extensions as well. Otherwise really what's the point of having the option in the app in the first place (a good option BTW!), if all other places users frequently use 1P daily don't acknowledge the formatting correctly.

  • Thanks for the reply. All of the settings in the desktop app only apply to the desktop app but I can definitely see how having a similar setting in the browser extension would provide for more consistency. Hopefully that can be added in the future. 🙂

    Thanks for the info update.

    Is my point 2 being fixed, too?

    @jimthing

    I've split the other comments into a new dedicated thread for the markdown issue in the desktop app. Your request to introduce an option to turn off markdown formatting in the browser extension has been filed as a feature request for consideration in the future. Thanks again for the feedback.

    @Dave_1P Where's the link to that thread, please?

    The thread dedicated to the new issue where notes don't display correctly in the desktop app (not the browser extension extension) can be found here: https://1password.community/discussion/148898/secure-notes-missing-line-breaks-when-markdown-is-turned-off-in-1password-for-mac

    Just updated to today: 1Password for Mac 8.10.52 (81052025)

    Fix for this was not on it. Any idea of timescale and/or for release number to expect this on?

    EDIT - I note Windows also has this issue:

    We're currently testing a fix for the issue in the latest nightly version of 1Password. If testing goes well there then the fix will be added to the beta and then the stable version as soon as possible.
