Password conflict? Safari Crashing since installing Safari update to Sonoma.

I have been using 1Password for years and have stuck with Version 7 as it meets all my needs.
My late 2020 Intel iMac running Sonoma OS was working perfectly until I installed a Safari update on 15th November. Since then I have two apparently unconnected problems:
1. Trying to open some websites in Safari or Chrome causes the web browser to crash immediately. However, other websites, not requiring log in, work perfectly.
2. Text to speech no longer works in Mail, for example.
I have subsequently upgraded to Sequoia but the problem persists when logged in as myself. However, if I log in as Guest my web browsers work normally without crashing.
I have not made any changes to my system other than installing the Safari update, then Sequoia. I had no problems before the Apple Password app was installed. Could this be a conflict between 1Password and Apple Passwords or just a coincidence?
I tried turning off all auto fill features in Safari. I also temporarily deleted 1Password and restarted my Mac. The problem persisted so I have reinstalled 1Password.
Apple Support cannot suggest anything other than deleting multiple apps and files, all of which are functioning normally. I am on the point of wiping my hard drive and doing a clean install and careful reload of data from Time Machine. Does anyone have any ideas before I resort to this extreme measure?

  • Hello @Poromies! 👋

Thanks for reaching out. Having both 1Password and Apple Passwords installed on the same device shouldn't cause crashes, I haven't seen any other reports of this. Can you tell me a little more about why you think 1Password is involved with the crashes? Did the crashes continue after you uninstalled 1Password?

I did want to mention that 1Password 7 is no longer supported or being tested with new updates to macOS. Once you resolve the crashing issue, I recommend that you upgrade to the latest version: Upgrade to 1Password 8

I did not think 1Password caused the problem because it has always worked perfectly. That was proved by temporarily removing 1Password. I thought that Apple Passwords may have introduced a clash. This remains a mystery to me.
