how to hide sensitive data in op item get

Why is sensitive data showing as revealed when doing a query like:

 /usr/local/bin/op item get "myItem" --vault "myVault" --format json

I noticed there is a --reveal parameter but why would I need it when the data is already revealed regardless.
I also figured out that data remains hidden when removing the --format json part from the query.
Why not introduce reveal all data by default and add a --hide-sensitive option instead; --reveal wouldn't be needed anymore.
