Hey everyone 👋

We have some exciting news to share with you! We are thrilled to announce that the 1Password Community forums are transitioning to a brand-new Community platform that offers expanded capabilities to improve your experience.

We want to ensure you are fully informed about the changes coming your way and what that means for your 1Password Community account and data.

This transition will involve some brief downtime for the switchover.

  • Duration: January 28th - February 4th, 2025.
  • Downtime details: The Community will be in read-only mode for the duration. You will be able to see posts that were made before the downtime, but not post new content during this time.

If you have any questions about your 1Password account during this period, you can contact support.

We’ve compiled answers to some frequently asked questions about the migration, including what data is being migrated below:

General FAQs

1. What does this migration mean for my existing posts and content?

All your existing posts, replies, and interactions from the past three years will be migrated to the new Community, ensuring that valuable contributions remain intact. We’re taking steps to make this process as seamless as possible.

2. Will I need to create a new account or re-register?

User accounts that have been active within the past year will be carried over to the new 1Password Community, and you will need to reset your password when you first sign in. If you haven’t logged in during the past year, you will need to create a new account.

3. Will there be any downtime during the transition?

Yes, there will be a brief period of downtime from January 28th - February 4th, 2025, where our existing Community (1password.community) will be read-only. This is to ensure all data is transferred smoothly when we move to the new Community. We’ll provide advanced notice and updates within the Community (1password.community) so you’re informed every step of the way. If you have any questions about your 1Password account during this period, you can contact support.

4. What new features or improvements can we expect?

Our new Community will include an improved layout, easier navigation, and enhanced tools for discussions and Developer resources. It’s designed to make your experience more intuitive and enjoyable, with better support and engagement opportunities.

5. What changes can I expect in the new Community?

We’re streamlining our forums to improve your experience as well as adding additional tools to make it easier to communicate with other members and find the answers you need. This will result in changes to page layouts and website navigation. Our team will be there to answer any questions you may have as you log in to use your new account.

6. How will this affect ongoing discussions and current threads?

All ongoing discussions and current threads within the past three years will be preserved during the migration. You’ll be able to continue conversations seamlessly once the new Community is live.

7. Can we expect changes to moderation or community guidelines?

Our core guidelines and moderation principles will remain consistent, and will continue to evolve as our community grows.

8. Will there be tutorials or guides for the new Community?

1Password will provide various tutorials and guides to help you navigate the new Community.

  • If you have logged into your account within the past year, your account will be migrated to the new Community. When you log into the Community after February 4th, you’ll have the same user name, but will need to use the Reset Password feature to set a new password.

  • If you have not logged in within the last year, you will need to set up a new account and password once the new Community is live after February 4th.

Your 1password.community content

  • Posts, replies, and interactions from the past three years will be migrated to the new Community, so that your valuable contributions remain intact.

  • Posts, replies and interactions that are more than three years old will not be migrated to the new Community.

Here's hoping the new platform allows for 2FA and Passkey creation.

You should set up a Community Discord server

Will each user's bookmarked discussions be preserved / migrated?
They are useful for following discussions to receive notifications of new posts with the 'New comments on my bookmarked posts' setting in Notification Preferences, so it would be good if those continued to come through after the migration.

I was excited for Discourse as well, but see you'll be going with Khoros instead. I don't think I've ever used a forum powered by them, but I'm hopeful it will give me the same warm fuzzies I've gotten from Discourse! Can totally understand that enterprise might not want to use Discourse due to special data privacy needs.

+1 to the hope that passkeys are supported in the new forum.

Will it be easier to track issues? It’s incredibly frustrating when staff mark conversations closed before an issue is completely resolved.

@phoenix1386: Here's hoping the new platform allows for 2FA and Passkey creation.

Great question! We’re actively investigating options for enhanced security features, including passkey integration, for the new Community platform. While there’s nothing final to share right now, it’s definitely on our radar. 🙂

  • @ajh0912: Will each user's bookmarked discussions be preserved / migrated?

Unfortunately, bookmarks won’t be migrated to the new platform, as there’s no way to transfer them between systems. I'd recommend saving any important links or discussions you’ve bookmarked ahead of the migration.

Why did you choose Khoros over the other forum software such as Discourse? Just curious.

  • @phoenix1386

Picking the right platform was a big decision, but Khoros really stood out because its features aligned closely with both our short-term goals, and where we want to take the Community in the future. It gives us tools to improve navigation, make engagement easier, and scale as we grow — all while focusing on making the experience better for everyone.

There are a lot of great platforms out there, but we’re excited about what Khoros will let us do for the 1Password Community moving forward.
