Note this will likely become a big issue shortly with tax season as IRS.gov requires ID.me for authentication and I can no longer use my stored passkey in Apple Password nor can I use 1Password for Passkeys for same issues above. I can workaround by enabling both Apple Password and 1Password but then the UX of 1Password gets horrible as Apple Password keeps pre-empting 1Password. I hope you guys fix integration with macOS Sequoia+

  • Hello @jerickson721! 👋

I'm sorry that you're unable to use a saved passkey to sign into ID.me. It's odd that a passkey saved in either Apple Passwords or 1Password isn't working until you enable both services at the same time. So that I can better understand the situation can you tell me the following:

    1. When only 1Password is enabled, can you tell me what happens when you try to use a passkey saved in 1Password to sign into ID.me? Can you post a screenshot of what you see?
    2. Does ID.me support saving passkeys for sign in? Or only for multi-factor authentication after you enter your password?
    3. Can you reproduce the issue in another browser like Chrome or Firefox?

I tried a few more things and I got it working with 1Password. The issue was:

    • 1Password had my password for ID.me but not ID.me's passkey
    • Apple Password had the passkey from over a year ago
    • When I tried to use passkey initially only Apple Password dialog showed up
    • Once I created a new ID.me passkey, 1Password recognized it and attempted to save it as well as was able to use it
