Why is this extension so bad at changing passwords (and other things)?

I am scared to change my password without doing a bunch of extra leg work. Typically I feel like I had to save off the old password somewhere temporarily and then use the suggested password. A lot of the time it re-prompts with a new suggestion and I end up getting that password saved inside of 1Password instead of the original suggested one that is saved in the site. Or it creates a new entry for the site and now I have two entries. Or it saves it in 1Password and that causes the page I am changing the password on to act goofy and / or reload, losing the password. On some sites I have had to redo my password several times because of this extension doing this stuff. This part of 1Password seriously sucks. I shouldn't be scared to change my password and shouldn't have to do a bunch of extra legwork to assuage that fear. This has been going on for a couple of years but seems to be getting worse the past few months.

Also, this morning I had to close the browser and reopen twice just to get the dropdown to work so I could login.

I'll also add here the support options for contacting 1Password are pretty bad as well. I don't want to talk to AI. AI is almost never helpful, especially when it is in the form of a chatbot. I want to contact a real person, not get regurgitated content that isn't helpful. I'm using the latest version of Chrome and 1Password. Please put more effort into this extension.

  • Hello @MikeCheel! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into issues when changing a password on certain pages. The expected behaviour would be what is documented on our support page here:

Can you confirm that you're following that process? If you are then can can you tell me the following:

    1. On which websites did you run into the issue?
    2. Are you using the latest version of 1Password in the browser (8.10.56): How to keep 1Password up to date in your browser

I'll also add here the support options for contacting 1Password are pretty bad as well. I don't want to talk to AI. AI is almost never helpful, especially when it is in the form of a chatbot. I want to contact a real person, not get regurgitated content that isn't helpful.

If the chatbot isn't able to answer your questions then it should offer to create a ticket with our support team. Alternatively, you can reach our support team by sending an email to support@1Password.com
