1Password Shared Dropbox Vault Sync doesn't work

Hi,

I was very excited about the new shared vault feature, so I wanted to setup a shared vault with my colleague (1Password4 for Mac):

  1. I created a new vault and entered a password
  2. I went to Preferences>Sync and set the location to my dropbox folder (Dropbox/Shared/1Password-shared)
  3. 1Password created a vault in my Dropbox which is beeing synced (as I can see from the Dropbox activity)
  4. I shared the Dropbox folder with a colleague of mine
  5. She accepted the invitation and Double-Clicked the Vault in her Dropbox on her MacBook
  6. After entering my passphrase (from step 1) she had all the passwords I already entered in a separate Vault. Sync in Preferences seems to be good.

So far so good. Now the problem:

a) When I add any items to the shared vault, they don't appear in HER 1Password.
b) When she enters any items to the shared vault, it doesn't appear in MY 1Password.

When looking into the vault, I can even see the note in the agilekeychain/data/default note (identified by its Title) as a UUID.1password file and in contents.js. But not appearing in my 1Password.

Please advise what to do.

P.S.: Viewing 1Password.html in any browser (FF, Chrome, Safari) doesn't work either, always results in "A key data file could not be loaded and 1PasswordAnywhere cannot continue without it."

    Hi @Thomas,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties getting shared vaults to work. I would like to thank you though, for including so much detail in your original post. It sounds like you've done everything right with your initial set-up, so we're going to need to dig a little deeper. Could you please send us a Diagnostics Report?

Download the 1Password Troubleshooting utility and follow the instructions to generate the report.

Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support@ agilebits .com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

@Thomas — unrelated to your main problem, but since it tripped me up for ages and I only figured it out last week...The right way to use 1PasswordAnywhere is from the Dropbox web site, not double-clicking on the .html file in the Finder. You can also right-click on the .agilekeychain and choose "View on Dropbox.com", then click on 1Password.html. Various browser security restrictions are responsible for the errors you're seeing: 1PasswordAnywhere doesn’t have access to your passwords when you try to open it from a local disk.

    Thanks for the tip, @nriley.

Thanks to this tip I've got new info for @Megan: I actually DO see a secure note my colleague added in 1Password anywhere, which DOESN'T appear in 1Password v4 on Mac!

    @nriley @Thomas

You should have no issues opening it from a browser via local access. I have no issues with it. It was designed to be accessed that way as well. @dteare even said its designed to function that way. Unless something has changed as of recent its still that way.

Do note : The entire keychain must be present as the html file doesn't contain all the info to provide passwords etc. So copying the html file elsewhere will not yield you access to your data.

If in doubt always use Safari, Its bundled will each Mac thats why its also the app to open help files etc. You don't have to download anything to get at those help files etc.

Sorry, should have been clearer — it does work locally with Safari for me, but not with Chrome or Firefox.

Ah that may in fact be true as I never leave my jungle "Safari" :P Thanks for updating the topic.

    Thanks for following up @Thomas!

Once we've had a chance to look over the Report we'll follow-up via email, just so that things don't get muddled between here and there. :)

@AndreaMoro, and also @Thomas I am almost 75% sure this may well apply to you

I noticed that if you copy a item to another vault. In order to get Dropbox sync to happen you must switch your vault to that secondary vault. After copying the item.

For me copying from my Primary to a archive vault, I must switch to that archive vault in my copy of 1Password 4 to get Dropbox to sync the changes so other shared folks of that vault can see the changes.

Its a kinda pesky bug but once you realize it need to be done. I just make sure once or twice a day etc to switch to each vault I have. Or if you know someone is expecting it just switch rather quickly. Once the switch is done you can immediately go back to the vault you were in. it takes just a few seconds to make the change so other can see the items

If this is not your issue them by all means keep on with your normal activities.

    Cheers'

It's not my issue (I switched back and forth a lot of times), but good to be aware of that bug.

    Hey guys,

Sounds like most of you have resolved your Dropbox Sync issues -- excellent!

If anyone's still having trouble with it please refer to Jeff Shiner's post that might be helpful: here.

@AndreaMoro: Someone will also be following up to email and the report you've sent us.

    Thanks!

    Hi @tonton,

If you currently use 1Password 4 on Mac only, you can sync multiple vaults to Dropbox no problem. The only tricky part comes in when you also use 1Password 4 for iOS. Because multiple vaults are currently a Mac only feature, if you have multiple vaults stored in Dropbox, 1Password 4 for iOS could get confused and try to merge both databases. We're planning to bring multiple vaults to iOS in a future update to make this even easier for everyone, but in the meantime, we recommend only syncing one vault through Dropbox if you also use 1Password for iOS. :)

@megan can you share a timeframe for shared vaults on iOS and Windows? I use 1Password on Mac, Windows and iOS and would like to see feature parity across all platforms.

    Hi @kevinkuszyk,

I really wish I could tell you more, but we make it a point not to promise dates on unreleased features. There are just too many factors involved (including many that are beyond our control) and the last thing we want to do is promise something and not be able to deliver. It's just not a nice way to treat our users.

What I can tell you is that you are not the only one who is excited to see more from multiple vaults, and this feature is high on our priority list. I do apologize, I wish I could say more, but I hope that it will be worth the wait.

We very much appreciate your patience :)

    Thanks your votes, guys!

As @Megan has mentioned, multiple/shared vaults for iOS are coming and it's high priority feature. :)

Is there an update / indication when the iOS app will be able to open shared vaults? A Co-worker just bought the app to be able to share logins but he has no mac so he bought the iOS app thus far for nothing…
