Generated passwords history

Hi

Should the 'Passwords' category include all generated passwords, like the old 1P3 global password history? My Passwords category has only one entry for December, but I've created three logins this month which do (thankfully) show up in the Logins category. Both were created using 1P4 using the Chrome extension and 1P4 generated passwords. I've tried the various sort options to see whether it's a created / modified issue but nope.

Thanks guys -- sorry if this is a dumb question, I've been reading through the forum and I can't work out if it's intended behaviour or if my 1P4 is broken.

    Hi @geraintp,

I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we have been a bit overwhelmed since the launch of 1Password 4 for Mac. We're all working hard and putting in extra hours to get back to our usual snappy responses and we really appreciate your patience.

First of all, there's no such thing as a dumb question - we're always happy to help! We have had some issue with 1Password saving too many passwords into the Passwords category, but I'll admit, I haven't heard the comment about it not saving enough before. :) Here's how things are supposed to work: once the generated password gets updated in the Login, we remove the generated password from the Passwords category since it is now redundant. We are currently tracking a bug where the generated password doesn't always get properly removed, leaving users with an abundance of generated passwords that are also stored nice and snugly within a Login. So if you are only seeing the generated passwords that are not also saved in a Login, all is right in your 1Password world.

I hope this helps, but we're here for you if you have any further questions!

I signed up mid/end January 2014. I have just one password under "password category" - and i have now created several new logins. My brother, who put me onto your wonderful site, told me that every time he generates a new password, it shows up under the 'password' category. I thought this would be a good idea, since I am in the steep learning curve (I am 67) and have a fear of messing things up and not being about to find the old password. If this is a secure place, I would like to keep a copy of my log in passwords there. Does this happen still automatically? If not, why is the category still there, why did it just populate one of my log ins and not the rest? Can I still use it if I want to, and how, since it doesn't seem to be working. thanks for your reply, sounds like you are all busy!

My understanding is that the Passwords category will save any password which you have generated but which you have not saved to a specific Login item. In other words, if you have created a new Login item with the newly generated password it won't appear in the Passwords category.

    Hi @gingerwedin,

I hope @Stephen_C's helpful answer was helpful for you!

My brother, who put me onto your wonderful site, told me that every time he generates a new password, it shows up under the 'password' category.

You must have a wonderful brother. :)

Whenever you generate a password in the 1Password mini Password Generator, it will only save a Password item after using Copy or Fill there. If you just generate the password, without using Copy or Fill, then 1Password hasn't saved it anywhere.

A more permanent item to log in on a site, like this forum for instance, would usually be saved as a Login item instead of a Password item.

If you have other questions about this or anything else please do ask. Like @Megan said, we're always happy to help!
