Export to CSV

Hello AgileBits,

As I read thru the discussions here I noticed there isn't any satisfying answer to a relatively simple question.
How can I export MY own data from 1Password4 to an commonly used format like CSV?

As I ran into this problem myself, I started wondering how I can get my OWN data out of 1Password4 so I can freely import it in anything I like.
I use as an second computer an Windows 8 machine for which I use KeePass (whether this is good or bad is not the discussion, that is my own decision).

So I started with 1Password4 for Mac and export my data (remember to read it as: MY OWN PERSONAL DATA which happens to be stored in 1Password4).
It only let's me export my data as an (not useable format by any other program that support CSV import) .1pif file!
This is odd, because in the world of data-exchange the CSV import/export is widely known and common used.

So I read some topics about this on the discussions forum of Agilebits all to no avail.
Somebody said "install 1Password3 and export to CSV from there".

So I downloaded and installed 1Password3 on my Mac and tried to import the (exported) .1pif-file (which I exported earlier from 1Password4).
Well guess what.

When I tell 1Password3 I want to import the .1pif file, and point to where the .1pif file resides (on my desktop in this case) and I hit the import button 1Password3 just exits.
I tried it several times but all to no avail. I repaired permissions on my Mac, it is not going to work!

So not only it is impossible to export MY OWN PERSONAL DATA from 1Password4 to an open and widely spread format like CSV
I also cannot interchange MY OWN PERSONAL DATA to the previous version!

1Password4 is syncing with iCloud and I have no intention to change that for whatever reason.

When I read thru the discussions all there is to say that AgileBits is saying that they are working on it!
But I mean, come on, it is no rocket-science to implement an export to CSV feature if you are really honest.

What I do notice is that more than once, if an user asks for an export to CSV feature, the 'advise' is been given to try 1Password for Android (in that particularly case).

So it seems to me that AgileBits has no intentions to make haste with an export to CSV feature so users will try (and eventually buy) 1Password4 for another system or OS.

Now as an consumer this is a really, really bad thing!
Again, it is MY OWN PERSONAL DATA and 1Password4 should provide in an export to CSV feature from day 1!
I decide whatever I like to do with MY OWN DATA, I decide for whatever reason I choose NOT to install 1Password4 on another system or OS.
Not AgileBits or anybody else!

So, here I am, trapped in the claws of AgileBits. A company which not let me decide to do whatever I wanna do with MY OWN PERSONAL DATA and advices users to try 1Password on other systems / OS.

So for the sake of all the other people including myself get your act together and provide us/me with an decent export to CSV feature so I CAN CHOOSE whatever program I decide to choose for storing MY OWN PERSONAL DATA!

I must say that it is ridiculous that since the launch of 1Password4 (2013-10-04) there has been no progress in such an simple question and matter.

I was an proud user of 1Password since the early days, but this behaviour is simply not acceptable nowadays.
You cannot force people to use only 1Password by lacking of export functions for whatever reason there may be.

This should have been addressed in maximum 1 month from the initial release of 1Password4.
You do have to understand that I / we paid for the program from upgrade to upgrade to get where 1Password4 is today!
So you took our/my money, but yet trying to force us/me to stay on the 1Password4 boat by any means.

So please, give us/me a decent export to CSV function as the program is yours, but all the stored data is 100% mine!

    Hi @mollie,

I do apologize for your frustration here. We certainly do not mean to make you feel trapped! We'd much prefer that you used 1Password because you believed it was the best way to keep your data safe and secure.

I would like to mention that we are a small team (with only 40 members, developers and support staff inclusive), and somehow the day always seems too short for all the features we want to implement ... and the bugs that require our attention. This is certainly not meant as an excuse, but I do hope you can understand that we are doing our best to ensure that 1Password is working smoothly for all users, and that features are implemented in a timely manner. Sometimes this can be a delicate balancing act.

That being said, I have good news for you! CSV export is now being tested in our latest beta of 1Password 4 for Mac. You are welcome to help us test it out. Simply go to our downloads page and select 'Download Beta'. Before you install or open the beta though, please go to Preferences > General in 1Password and disable ‘Always keep 1Password mini running’. Then use Command-Control-Q to quit 1Password and 1Password Mini. This will avoid complications between the two versions.

(As an aside, I'm also curious as to where you saw it recommended that 1Password for Android would be an alternative to an export feature.)

I hope you find this helpful, but we're here for you if you have any further questions :)
