Why is .agilekeychain file not required? [1P4 uses SQLite database instead]

Just out of curiosity why is the agilekeychain file not created unless you sync with a folder?

Can I still sync it to this application support folder? ~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4

I only need it occasionally for iTunes (updating the IOS app).

    Hi @albeemb,

1Password 4 stores your data in a SQLite database, therefore the Agile Keychain file is not required unless you're syncing via Dropbox or Folder.

With folder sync, you can choose any location on your Mac to create the Agile Keychain and keep it in sync.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. :)

    Thanks JasperP.

Yes I do have another question now :)

When syncing with a local folder is there an option to use. opvault Format over .agilekeychain Format?

I chosen to sync with a local folder and I was not presented with any options, the agilekeychain was created by default.

Isn’t the new opvault format more secure?

    Thanks again.

    Hi @albeemb,

Folder syncing (and Dropbox) use the .agilekeychain format at the moment. Only iCloud sync currently uses the new .opvault format.

Once 1Password 4 is released for all platforms, we'll fade out the .agilekeychain format and switch to .opvault for Dropbox/Folder sync as well. We'll release more details as we get closer to this switchover.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!
