Ghost primary vault

Hello there!

I haven't set up any secondary vaults because I don't need them. However I am curious of why I have two vaults, both labeled 'Primary'. They seem to be identically and I can't even switch between them. The second one is always selected and it won't let me switch to the first one. I have checked Dropbox and iCloud storage for duplicates but couldn't find any. It's very strange.

Does someone have a clue what is going on here?

Is there any chance you could have two versions of 1P4 on your Mac? For example, in your browser do you see two key symbols for 1P4 instead of one?

Yes, I have both the MAS and website version installed. I downloaded the version from the website because the MAS version is outdated. Shouldn't they use the same vault? Also it doesn't make any difference which version of 1Password I use. They look the same.

Try running one of the versions you have and go to 1P4 > Preferences > General and un-check Always keep 1Password mini running. Does that get rid of the phantom primary vault?

There are two knowledge base articles that may interest you:

Migrate from MAS to web store version

Migrating from the beta to the Mac App Store version

The latter explains, at the end of the article, why it's not a good idea to run two versions concurrently, which is what I suspect you may have been doing.

I read through the articles which indeed were relevant since I had a bunch of different versions of 1Password running in the past (3.8, 4 MAS, 4 Beta, 4 AWS). I deleted everything that was left from the MAS version (as described in the migration article) and disabled 1Password Mini as well.
Unfortunately nothing has changed. Should I uninstall everything and sync again through Dropbox?

I just deleted all local data and synced again with Dropbox. Now everything runs fine.
Well, I don't know why I didn't do it like that in the first place. It's pretty straight forward.
Excuse me for bothering you. Everything turned out ok.

1P3 will not conflict with 1P4, so that version does not matter. If you really need to start over there is a knowledge base article on that here. That might be a little complex in your case as you seem to have, or have had, three versions of 1P4 (although effectively the AgileBits store version and the beta version are the same—in the sense that they use the same folders).

I hesitate to recommend complete un-installation and re-sync through Dropbox just in case anything goes wrong and you lose any data. Can you identify which 1P4 version has the most up to date set of your data (either by inspecting dates on folders or by looking in 1P4)?

The alternative is to await more expert guidance from one of the moderators here, who are experts and will be able to help. They usually look in every day.
