[Resolved]1Password not working on USAA.com? Have to cut and paste manually
Hi, there--I just updated a password on USAA.com. I checked and it's all saved correctly on 1P. But when I click on 1P to fill in the User Name and password blanks, I get an error message from USAA that my user name and password don't match their records.
Just to doublecheck, I cut and pasted my user name and password from 1P to USAA and I CAN log in that way. Known problem with this website or what am I doing wrong?

I once had the same problem. Most likely your generated password is longer than is permitted by the USAA site. When you copy and paste, the web form truncates it to the maximum allowed length, which is what USAA thinks your password is. When 1Password auto submits, it uses some other process than paste does, and it transmits the entire password to USAA, not the correct truncated version. I think I remember that the maximum allowable length is 12 characters. When I truncated the password in my USAA record to 12 characters and resaved it, the site started to accept my automatic logins. It took me quite awhile to figure this out, and I think the eventual key came when I counted the number of dots in the password field and decided to try only the first 12 characters of my saved password.
I complained to USAA about this, but got little interest expressed in fixing this. They really ought to allow longer passwords, but at least they should explain their restrictions. And they should never have accepted the generated password as if it were legal. Grrr. It still irritates me every time I get reminded about it.

Hawkmoth, you are brilliant! Thank you so much! I changed the length to 12 characters and that did the trick. But you're right--USAA only says "a minimum of 8 characters"--not a MAX of 12. Anyway, thank you. You just saved me a ton of time and anxiety that 1P wasn't working right!

Hooray! And if you see a question like this about USAA, remember what you did. And a warning: although I cannot remember where, if have encountered this kind of nonsense on a couple of other sites. Most do reveal their limits if you look hard enough.
