Making purchase from "trial" version

I've been working with the "trial" version (downloaded from the company website) for several days now, and am ready to purchase the program. When I go to preferences/licenses, it takes me to the company store site. Since I'm using the trial version that was downloaded from the company store, can I still make the actual purchase thru the Apple App Store? And if so, will that affect any items I've loaded into my 1Password program? Thank you.

You can purchase from the Mac App Store if you want and you should still be able to access the data you already have in 1P4: you just have to be a little careful about how you set up 1P4. There's a (rather old) knowledge base article here on moving from a beta version to the Mac App Store version which should help you. (Although it refers to moving from the beta version you're effectively doing the same thing because the beta version is a version direct from AgileBits.)

If you follow carefully what the article says you should have no problems.

Thanks for the your response. In other words...life would likely be simpler (and maybe more clean) if I buy the program directly from the AgileBits store, and add the license key that's provided upon purchase. Because...as I understand it - the Mac App Store version is actually different??? Would you agree with that statement?

The only real difference between the MAS version and the AgileBits store version is that AgileBits can't guarantee that iCloud sync will always work with the AgileBits store version (because Apple may at some future date stop third party apps from using iCloud sync). There is a knowledge base article called Purchase from Mac App Store or AgileBits' Store? which may help you decide.

And, because of the process of App Store approval, the version in the App Store may not be as current as the version from AgileBits, but this gets cleared up in a few weeks.

    Hi @danco,

While this is occasionally the case, we've been doing our best to release updates to the webstore version at the same time as updates to the Mac App Store version are released, just to avoid confusion. :)

    Hi @wilson0724,

You can do exactly that. :)

It's switching from the AgileBits Store version to the Mac App Store version (and vice versa) that can be trickier and something we intend to improve.
