Use some caution when spotlight launching 1Password
Shouldn't be an issue, unless you've left another copy of 1Password on another partition or in another folder. Such as the beta and the App Store version. If you launch 1Password from spotlight, and end up with the wrong version and the wrong 1Password Mini all sorts of chaos ensues.
It would be nice if 1Password checked if it was running from Applications before launching and asked to verify its what you wanted. Obviously the real answer is don't leave multiple copies of 1Password laying around, but that can be hard if you have multiple partitions for testing - that you can't unmount and don't want to disable spotlight on.

Hi @codyfrisch,
Thanks for bringing this up.
It is best to keep one copy of 1Password running around in any situations. One of the problems on Yosemite is that even if you open 1Password from the right folder, it can still open the wrong 1Password mini from a different partition or drive.
We do have extra code to detect the wrong version of 1Password mini but it just brings up a prompt to let you know about it. The best thing to do is remove all other copies and only use one copy of 1Password.

I have multiple boot partitions, and if I only have one copy, and it is in the applications folder on the non-booted partition, 1Password fails to find mini.
Are two copies the right answer, or is there another way?

Hi @davidungar,
Generally, it has to be in the Applications folder of the booting partition, not on other partitions.
A few questions:
- Are you using the Mac App Store version of 1Password or did you buy 1Password from our website?
- Is Spotlight set to index other partitions? If you've booted from partition 1, is Spotlight set to index the other booting partitions? If yes, OS X would then get confused and locate multiple copies, chooses the first one it finds and that could be from the other partition. If you set it not to index the other partition, you should be able to get away with having multiple copies on the same drive.
