How to change multiple vaults?

I divided my original vault in 3 vaults. All three are synced to dropbox and to my iPhone. 1password starts up on my mac with the primary vault. How can I change my vaults on starting up or on using it? There should be a dropdown-menu (as there is one on the iPhone).
And how do I sync all three vaults with my second mac at home? There also I only have access to the primary vault. There is no opportunity to choose one of the other twos. Please help.

  • Hi @MaBu,

There are two ways you can change the vault:

    1. Go to the 1Password menu > Switch to Vault
    2. Keyboard shortcut; Command + [vault #], the first vault is always primary, so Command + 1 for primary. The Switch to Vault Menu will show the vault #.

In 1Password mini, click on the lock icon to bring up the vault list to select from or you can use the same keyboard shortcuts.

To open the secondary vaults on the second Mac, just double-click on the vault file you sync'ed in the Dropbox folder. This guide will provide more information when you scroll down to the Accessing a shared vault section: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-mac-kb/4/en/topic/sharing-a-vault

    Hope that helps.

Feature request: Can you make the order of vaults in the dropdown list of multiple vaults in the browser mini-app user-configurable? I primarily use a family shared vault rather than my primary vault, and it adds an extra step to select the shared vault.

    Hi @scottmil and @ravere,

Thanks for sending us your request! I can certainly pass that along to our developers. I think a lot of 1Password users would find that very useful as well!

Currently, if you really need to change which vault is Primary, it's possible to do that but involves syncing each vault with Dropbox (or Folder sync), resetting 1Password, then setting it up again with the vaults in the order you want them. If you think you'd like to do that, let us know and we can give you the specific steps for that.

Alternately, it's really easy to use keyboard shortcuts to easily switch between vaults: ⌘1 is for the Primary vault, ⌘2 is for the secondary vault (if you have more vaults, they'll use ⌘3, ⌘4, and so on, in the order they're listed in 1Password). Those work in the main 1Password app as well as the browser extension. If you need to use a Login item that is saved in a secondary vault, start by pressing the usual ⌘\ shortcut. When the extension appears, press ⌘2 (or ⌘3, ⌘4, etc) to switch to the secondary vault. 1Password will remember you're using that vault until the next time it's locked, so you won't need to do that every time.

Hopefully that helps, but please let us know if you need more help.
