Backup file not updating....is there a main file with all my logins?
Hi everyone. So I've been using 1Password for about a year now. No problems on my Macbook Pro locally, all the logins were always there when I needed them. I have an Android phone and I noticed a while back that when I tried to access the logins from the Android app, there were only 6 logins there. I also noticed the same thing about the backup file on my dropbox account.
I recently installed an SSD in my macbook and when I reinstalled 1Password only the 6 logins from dropbox backed up. So I have two questions:
- Why is the backup file not syncing to dropbox? Apparently it never really synced since the beginning since only 6 of my login details are there.
- I still have my other original HDD intact. I want to wipe it to use it for backups, NAS, etc. but I'm wondering...there must be a file on it that has all my logins. Can someone point me to it?
Thanks!

Hi @faromic
Depending on where you purchased your copy of 1Password will have an impact on where the files are stored.
AgileBits store version:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4
Mac App Store version:
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper
It might be best to point out though that 1Password performs automatic backing up on a regular basis but not to Dropbox, instead it's to a local folder, by default in one of the locations above. Dropbox is used to sync data between devices but if you don't have Dropbox sync enabled on each device for each vault then it won't be copied to your Dropbox folder. The easiest way to tell the difference between a backup and a sync file is a sync file ends in .agilekeychain whereas the current backups use the .1p4_zip extension.
The easiest thing to do with your new SSD might be to follow the procedure for Starting over and use the latest backup from your old HDD. Then you probably want to ensure Dropbox sync is disabled on all devices, clear your Dropbox of the old .agilekeychain and then start Dropbox syncing on your mac. Give it a moment and then sync with your Android phone.
If you have any questions or concerns post here and we'll help you out.

Littlebobby....I installed everything and it works ok now. I just have one more question. Do I have to manually sync the dropbox folder every so often so the sync file is updated? Because like I said, before it didn't seem to update. I can't find a setting that seems to have this? I guess I just want to make sure the sync file on my dropbox account is always up to date.

Hi @faromic,
I'm so glad to hear that @littlebobbytables was able to get things sorted out for you!

Dropbox sync is fully automatic, it should update whenever you make a change to your database. If you want to be sure it's working, let's run a little test:
- Create a test entry on your Mac ("Test, Mac") and add some data
- Create a test entry on each of your Android device ("Test, Android") and add some data
- Does "Test for Mac" show up on either of your Android device?
- Does "Test for Android" show up on your Mac?
- Log in to the Dropbox website and click on the 1Password.html file inside your 1Password.agilekeychain folder
- Enter your Master Password
- Do either or any of your test entries show up in your database here?
If each test entry shows up on your other devices, we're all sorted!
