I signed up for a 1password and yes promply forgot the password. Know I have downloaded the APP again signed in bought the pro feature and when I try to sync my iphone and ipad it accesses the account in the cloud for which I have forgotten the password. I have no idea how to delete a cloud item; if in fact that is what I need to do. Recommendiations?

  • Good morning, Darwin. Sorry for the trouble you're having here, let's see what we can do to get you back on your feet. It sounds like iCloud contains some old information with your original (forgotten) password. We should be good to erase the iCloud data and start over. Let's try this:

    1. On both your iPad and your iPhone in 1Password tap on Settings > Sync > Sync Service > Disable Sync. If you don't see Sync Service and instead see Start Syncing then syncing is already disabled.
    2. Tap on Settings > Advanced > Erase iCloud Data and follow the prompts to do so.
    3. On the device with the correct data tap on Settings > Sync > Start Syncing and set up syncing with iCloud. You can follow the directions here to do so: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios/5/en/topic/sync-with-icloud
    4. Now switch to your other device and follow the same steps.

Let me know how this works out for you and if there's anything else I can do to help.

Thanks for your help, I now have the two devices syncing. Now the next question. I would like to use 1Pass on my Desktop and/or Laptop, how would I go about linking theses with the phone and mini so that all my devices are linked together? Is it possible? Both the Desktop and Laptop computers use Windows for there operating systems.

    Hi @Darwin Thomas,

Now you can sync 1Password on iOS and Windows but it won't work I'm afraid if you use iCloud. Now there is the alternative cloud service Dropbox which is platform agnostic and will happily let you sync iOS, Mac, Windows and even Android if you want.

Now our licences are per platform so you would need a single Windows licence to cover your Windows machines and 1Password 4 for Windows does require Windows 7 or newer. Now you can try 1Password 4 for Windows for a 30 day trial but even during the trial, if you would like all your machines and devices to sync your easiest option by far is Dropbox.

If you have any questions relating to any of that please do ask

Okay, things do sound promising here, if I just understood the terminology, which I don't, you lost me with "Dropbox" "Platform" "license". I have to say even as a novice I do enjoy using 1Pass on my phone and mini, but I do like the big picture on my desktop; and currently I have copied down the passwords to gain access which defeats the intended purpose. I see picture related instructions on line for various things, does agile-bits have a step by step for this? And maybe to help you understand where I am coming from, I will let you know that I am from a generation older than the baby boomers :)

"Platform" just means whether you are using Mac OS X, Windows, iOS, or Android OS.

"Dropbox" is best explained by going to www.dropbox.com and learning about it from there. Basically, it is a cloud syncing service which works across all platforms. And part of the point about Dropbox (and other) cloud syncing is that once it is fully set up, changes made on one device automatically get changed on your other devices.

    Hi @Darwin Thomas,

Here is a link to our guide for 1Password 4 for Windows and here is our guide for 1Password 5 for iOS. We have hopefully plenty of guides with pictures to help you through the steps and of course we're here in the forums as well if you have questions.

As danco has stated, platform in computer terms is when we refer to the very distinct systems out there. Dropbox works across all of them hence the term platform agnostic.

When I refer to a licence it comes down to how software is sold. You don't 'own' software in the sense of you don't have access to the source code, you're unable to modify that code etc. A licence from one company can also be very different from another. A licence from us (more details here) entitles you and five other family members to use 1Password for that platform on as many machines or devices of that type. So a single licence for Mac would entitle you to install and use it on 12 Macs for example if you and your partner had three machines each and you had three dependents with two machines each. Heck it could be more but that already seemed like an unlikely number.

As the licence is per platform a licence for iOS won't cover you for 1Password for Mac. There are other complications too just to make it a little messier. Given the thread started with iCloud it's likely you purchased 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store (MAS). Now to share that purchase with other family members you need to use Apple's Family Sharing as we don't control any aspect of licensing or authorising in those cases. Also and sadly, if you make use of the in-app purchase for the Pro features in our iOS version of 1Password that cannot be shared with other family members as Apple hasn't enabled this feature. We had hoped it would be the case when we moved to the freemium model we're currently using there but alas it wasn't to be. That means if every person using an iOS device in your family wanted the pro features they would each need to make the purchase.

So there's a bit of information in there. As before, if you have questions do please ask

Thank you both for the information and links, I am ready to give it a shot. Hopefully, I will have a snare free adventure, but if not I know where to find my life line.
