1Password 5 - The system launched an incorrect version of 1Password mini.
I copied 1Password 5 to the Application folder. When I start 1Password 5, I get the error
The system launched an incorrect version of 1Password mini.
Instead of '/Applications/1Password 5.app/Contents/LoginItems' it started '/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Applications/1Password 4.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems'.
Please make sure you have only one copy of 1Password on your Mac.
I deleted 1Password 4 in the Application folder. Logged out and back in. Same error each time I start 1Password 5.
Also, Notifications tells me I need to update 1Password. But, each time I click on Update, 1Password says I am up to date.
Returning to 1Password 4.
What gives?

This is a problem with Yosemite. You need to make sure that you have one copy only of 1P on your Mac's disk—including on any disk attached to the machine. You should have 1P running from your Applications folder so I suggest you re-install it there. If you don't want to detach the other disk you could try, as a work around that has worked for others, disabling Spotlight indexing of that other disk.

Stephen_C is sadly quite correct, there is a bug with Yosemite. It may be after moving the other copies of 1Password to your Trash (or disconnecting an external drive if you don't wish to delete it) that you need to reboot. Hopefully after a reboot and moving the other copies though you can once again run 1Password.
The issue won't be isolated to 1Password 5 so running 1Password 4 should yield the same problem. It comes back to part of how Yosemite works (or in this case doesn't).
