Syncing a shared item between vaults

I am wondering if I am misinterpreting the feature of shared passwords between vaults. I am running the latest version of mac with 1password 5 and I have had no issues sharing between 2 vaults set up using dropbox (for the last year or so). I recently noticed, when updating a security code on a credit card account in my primary vault, the changes do not sync across to the second vault.

I select the item, right click then=> share/primary/copy function and it successfully copies the data to my secondary vault. If it is only copying the data, I am guessing it doesn't have the ability to keep future changes in sync, or could I be handling this in the wrong manner?

Is there any way to keep changing data synced across vaults?

I appreciate any feedback on my issue.
Thanks!
Randy

    Hi @williams7170‌

Your guess is correct I'm afraid. Copying an item from one vault to another simply copies the data rather than linking the two. For that reason we recommend only keeping items in a single vault. If you do need to keep an item in both a possible workaround might be to add in the note section (or use of tags) that these items need copied when updated. Given how vaults work I'd have to ask a dev but I suspect a link might be more complex than it sounds on the face of it.

    Sorry I don't have a better solution.

  • Thanks for the quick response. I can plan a workaround with no issue, but wanted to make sure that I wasn't using the feature incorrectly. It will actually make more sense to keep them in separate vaults so I don't confuse "amex card 1" with "amex card 2"
    Thanks again!

    Hi @williams7170‌

That's how I use vaults too. I have my personal and business vaults as a logical divide rather than for sharing with others. Both have cards from the same bank as all my accounts are with one branch. The vaults help minimise the confusion
