Legal access to the password of a dead person by the family members
A friend of mine died, and now the family members need access to his passwords protected by 1Password.
Is there a legal way to do it?
Thank's a lot in advance.

Hi @Al Tarbal Tar,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. I am really sorry to hear about what happened to your friend.
Unfortunately, there is no way for us to unlock your late friend's data for the following reasons:
- We do not have access to the data, the 1Password data is stored locally on his/her device(s) and not on our servers.
- Even, if someone has access the data, there is no "back door" to unlocking the data, not even for us. Only the Master Password can unlock the data.
The only way to unlock your late friend's data would be to have the Master Password. You can also try and see whether or not your friend had a 1Password Emergency kit.
Thank you!
Rad

One at a time, you need to contact the organizations that are password-protected. All banks and other financial institutions have voice contact information and they can tell you how to proceed.

Unfortunately, I think my friend didn't had a 1Password Emergency Kit.
Anyway, thank's a lot for your attention.0 -

Hi Megan,
thanks to you too for the support.
Maybe we'll have to contact all the organizations that are password-protected, as Plato indicate, but don't worry, for sure we will find a way to deal with the situation.0 -
I hope the situation isn't too painful.
