Vaults out of sync

I recently updated most of my passwords, and have accidentally got my vaults out of sync. Here's what I did:

  1. On 1P5 for Mac, I put about 100 items into a folder, then realized it would be better to create a smart folder for the same set. So I deleted the regular folder and double-confirmed before I realized that would move every item in the folder to the Trash. D'oh.

  2. Next mistake: rather than sort out what items did and didn't belong in the Trash, I figured I'd just restore from my last backup. Unfortunately, that overwrote more of my new logins than I expected. Double d'oh.

  3. I quickly turned off iCloud syncing, and checked against my iPhone. It appears to be in the same state as #1. I synced that, then tried to re-sync from iCloud on the Mac. But for some reason, that's only finding a Vault from over a year ago (!?) so I haven't restored.

So at the moment I've still got:

  • On the Mac: State #2, with all of my Logins, but about 50 or so are out of date
  • On iOS: State #1, with up-to-date passwords (many of which are presumably in the Trash)

But I can't figure how to sync those back up to each other. Any advice… besides resetting all those passwords on their respective sites, or manually transcribing from iOS to Mac?

Okay, solved this by doing a Wifi sync from another iOS device. Put me back into state #1. Now I can manually sort through the Trash and restoring items one by one.

    1Password: some things to consider:

    • Enable multi-select Restore from Trash
    • Perhaps require a double-confirm to delete items inside of a folder
    • Don't allow delete/restore to change an item's "modified" date (it's making it very hard to sort this out!)

    Hi @jayharlow‌,

Oh wow that sounds painful. I'm sorry that you had to go through that. Sounds like you managed to dig yourself out though, which is great. Those are some great suggestions and I'll make sure we take them into consideration.

Deleting/restoring unfortunately needs to modify the "Modified" date, as this modified date is depended upon for sync. Trashing an item modifies it (sets Trashed=Yes), and we want to sync that change to other devices so we need the modified date to have changed to pick it up. I can certainly understand that in this specific scenario it's making your life harder though.
