Two iPhones with 1 Password and one Dropbox account - Need advice to sync everything up correctly
My wife and I have been using 1Password for years and have been very happy. I have been syncing through DropBox but she has to sync through the manual WiFi Sync... I know we cannot sync two different iPhones with one DropBox account. I'm trying to do my homework and not post a dumb question, but I need advice as to the smartest way to set up both of our phones!
My question is, what is the best way to get my wife's iPhone 1Password to sync automatically?
1) Should I Shard a DropBox folder?
2) Should I have her sync with her iCloud account and I continue to sync with Drop box
3) I there another option that I should consider
We have one DropBox account that we both use and I do not want to set up two DropBox accounts because we both use the same info in DropBox. We have separated Apple iCloud accounts that we back up our Contacts and Calendars with.
Thanks for the advice

Hi @redline450
Thanks so much for your support of 1Password! Trust me, there is no such thing as a dumb question here - we're always happy to help!
It should be possible to get both you and your wife synced up using Dropbox, but you're right - separate folders are going to be key.
Before we get into the instructions phase here, let's get a bit more detail on your 1Password ecosystem:
- What are the version numbers of 1Password and your operating system for all computers and devices running 1Password?
- How many vaults do you and your wife use? (For example, are you sharing a single vault, do you have your own vaults and share a secondary vault?)
Once we know a bit more about how many vaults we're dealing with, and where they all need to live, we'll be good to go. :)

Just to chime in for a moment.
You both can sync to the same Dropbox account. But as Megan mentioned separate folders are key.
The wife and I have multiple vaults setup all synced thru a single Dropbox account.
- Each of us have our own personal vault and have no issues having a iPhone, iPad and multiple Mac's.
I now return you to your admin channel and the capable hands of @Megan .

Megan, thanks for you help
1Password version 3.7 (on my wife's iPhone 6)
1Password version 5.1.2 (on my iPhone 6)
Operating system: MAC OS X version 10.8.5
We each have one vault and we are not sharing any vaultsthanks again for your help.

Hi @redline450
If your wife is currently using 1Password 3 on her iPhone then syncing via Wi-Fi is the only option. You used to be able to sync with Dropbox but they changed their APIs and so 1Password 3 for iPhone got cut off. That left Wi-Fi sync as the only sync method between a Mac and an iOS device running 1Password 3 for iPhone. As Wi-Fi sync changed dramatically between versions 3 and 4 in both the Mac and iOS versions that tells me you must be running at least 1Password 3 on your Mac and you didn't mention running two different versions so I'm thinking it's only 1Password 3 you're running there.
It isn't impossible but would like to better understand your situation before we proceed.
Mac: OS X 10.8 running 1Password 3
- In your user account you sync your vault with Dropbox probably in the root folder of Dropbox, am I correct?
~/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain
. - In your wife's user account she still uses Wi-Fi sync.
Is that a correct summary of your Mac?
Now you can continue to use 1Password 3 although if you're running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) 1Password 4 is compatible (but a paid upgrade). What would need to happen though is your wife would have to move from 1Password 3 for iPhone to 1Password 5 for iOS like yourself. That's the only way her copy of 1Password on her iPhone will be able to start using Dropbox again. Whether she makes the in-app purchase for the additional features is a choice she can make whenever she wishes.
Once you've confirmed the situation on your Mac we can proceed forward. The plan will roughly consist of the following:
- Disable Dropbox sync on your iPhone.
- Create new Dropbox folders for both you and your wife.
- Manually move your agilekeychain on your Mac. Tell 1Password 3 where it has moved when it can't find it.
- Reactivate sync on your iPhone.
- Move to your wife's account and have it move her agilekeychain to Dropbox. Then we'll do the same for hers as we did yours
That's the gist of the plan. We'll flesh it out a lot more once you've confirmed how your Mac is set up and if my assumption about what version of 1Password you're running is correct. You'll want to confirm that your wife is also happy to move to 1Password 5 for iOS as if she isn't then all of that would be moot.
Let us know and we'll continue it from there.
