Seeing a 'Trial Expired' message and am unable to edit any details in 1Password

I tried reaching customer service but apparently there isn't any and what does that say about a company?

I purchased 1password for mac + iPhone a few years ago, with the belief that this would be a one-time purchase, especially as it went on sale shortly after I purchased it but there was no way to retroactively apply the discount. It's how I justified spending so much money on something not totally necessary (evidenced by the fact that some of my included email accounts have been hacked in the interim.) Now, I can't edit passwords or change details because my "trial has expired"?! What?! I have to either purchase an upgrade or give up on my account. That's really not cool. If I had known this was something that was coming down the line, whether it be in two years or ten, I wouldn't have bothered with the original purchase. It's been handy but not handy enough to justify the feeling of being screwed over by a company I have been recommending to my friends in the interim. I'm super excited about the pissed off emails from them I'll be getting over the next few weeks as they figure out what has happened.

I'll be looking for a new password manager now, one that doesn't try to gouge their customers.

It's a little distressing that you didn't actually describe your issue. Your characterization of the company and its support isn't accurate, and you haven't really provided an opportunity to demonstrate that to you. Oh well. Seems you've made up your mind and decided to vent about it.

    Hi @DotRockerfeller‌

I'm so sorry to hear that you're frustrated with 1Password right now! Please understand that we've received a surge in support requests recently, and at this time, our forums here are the best way to get quick support from our team while we work to get caught up on our email queues. I'd be happy to help you out here.

Now, I just want to assure you that we will not charge you again for the same software, or force you to upgrade. Have you seen the 'Trial Expired' notice in 1Password 5 for Mac? that is posted at the top of the forum? I think this should shed some light on what you're seeing.

I did a search in our back office records for licensing information based on the email address attached to your forum account, and I was able to locate a license for 1Password 3. Now, the upgrade from 1Password 3 to 1Password 4 was a paid upgrade, but there were some cases where you may not have been properly prompted to update your licensing information, so you may have been using 1Password 4 unlicensed for a while without knowing it.

Of course, if you would like to continue using 1Password 3, that's completely fine. I can help you downgrade to the version that you purchased. I'll just need to know if your 1Password data is currently syncing anywhere, and if so, which method of sync you are using.
