Nothing works the way it is explained in the documentation
For many years, I have had a spreadsheet containing all my passwords. At first, this was fine, but as time passes, many more sites require passwords and it has become a real chore to keep this file up to date. After many months of thinking about it, I finally decided to use a password manager to simplify my "password life" 1 Password is my first attempt at password management. I thought this would finally simplify things but, I find it very complicated and confusing. First there is the browser who wants to remember the password, and then I try to change the password and I end up with 3 or 4 different entries in 1 Password for the same site, because 1 Password doesn't offer to update password like it says in the documentation. And then if I change browser, information is not automatically updated. I don't know if it's me, but this seems more complicated and confusing than my spreadsheet method. I would like to use 1 Password, but right now, it is taking too much of my time to understand and setup (and I'm not new to computers). The documentation is clear and well done, but the program does not always behave the way it is supposed to. Advice anyone?

Hi @JCB,
I'm so sorry to hear that you've been feeling frustrated by 1Password. I can promise you that once you get used to the workflow, 1Password will make it so much easier to behave securely. You won't miss that spreadsheet at all!
Now, you mention that the browser is asking to save the password. We generally recommend disabling the browser's save password feature, simply because it tends to make things more confusing.
then I try to change the password and I end up with 3 or 4 different entries in 1 Password for the same site, because 1 Password doesn't offer to update password like it says in the documentation.
I'm curious about how you're ending up with multiple entries in 1Password. It sounds like you're seeing the 1Password prompt, but it is displaying the 'Save new Login' option instead of the 'Update existing Login' - is that correct? If so, you can click on the 'Save new Login' text in the pop-up and you can select 'Update existing Login' instead.
As a further safety net, whenever you click 'Fill' on a generated password from 1Password mini, this password will also be temporarily copied onto your clipboard. You can check to confirm that this option is enabled by clicking on the arrow beside the Fill button - 'Copy to Clipboard Before Filling' should be checked. When this option is enabled, if 1Password doesn't properly prompt you to update your existing Login, you can open the item in the mini or the main app, select 'Edit' and paste your new password in the appropriate field.
And then if I change browser, information is not automatically updated.
That's odd. You're saying that you see different information in the 1Password extension depending on which browser you're using? If that is the case, then there's something potentially up with your system ... please let me know and we'll investigate further!
Thanks so much for your patience.
