Previous Pro version of 1Password for Mac no longer available in the Mac App Store?

I am a long time Mac User and previous Apple Employee. I heard a lot of good things about 1Password while I worked at the Apple Store so I decided to try it out. The experience was great on the application, I even recommended the application time and time again to customers and co-workers. My experience went so well that i decided to purchase the Pro version in the Mac App store on my MacBook Air. Everything was going great until recently when AgileBits decided to pull the application that i paid for from the App Store and no longer offer any updates for it and not to support it at all. This is something that I can understand because certain applications must change with the times. But they released a brand new Pro version of this application, same name, same uses, just newer features. They refuse to offer me a license to the newer application, even though I had paid for their previous Pro version of the application. Not even a discount on the newer version after investing money in their app. I created an account on this forum solely to share my experience because it enraged me. I contacted Apple support and they were the ones who told me what the issue was and why I can no longer properly use the application that I invested my money in. They said that there is nothing they can do about the issue and that the developer is allowed to do this and they quoted a section of the iTunes User Agreement. Way to shut a customer out, I will no longer be using your products in any way. I am now a Sales Lead at T-Mobile and I will make sure to advise customers of other products they can use instead of yours so that they don't have to deal with the same terrible customer experience that I have.

    @salsero09‌

    I thought that the "Pro" version was for IOS devices, not Macs.

    Hi @salsero09‌

    There seems to be a lot of confusion going on here.

    • We don't have a Pro version of 1Password for Mac. 1Password for Mac (MAS) was first released somewhere around 2011 and every update to 1Password has been free since then.

    So if you've purchased 1Password for Mac (MAS) at any point between 2011 and now when we first entered the MAS you shouldn't have to pay again. Normal caveats apply of course but you should be aware of them as an ex-Apple employee. Purchases don't transfer between Apple IDs etc.

    • In 1Password for iOS we moved from a standard purchase model in 1Password 4 to a 'lite' version with an in-app purchase in 1Password 5. Anybody that had purchased 1Password 4 though had these 'Pro' features enabled by reading the 1Password 4 receipt.

    Now we did have some problems at the start where it wasn't working properly if loaded and installed from iTunes instead of the iOS device but my understanding is we got that sorted out quite some time ago. So if you've purchased 1Password for iOS at any point between roughly late 2012 and now you shouldn't have to pay again.

    I can't explain what Apple support have told you or why but that doesn't tally with any recent events here. I'm inclined to believe they have severely misinformed you though.

    My recommendation is you supply us with some information regarding your purchases. What version did you purchase, when, what version you're running now etc. With a few details maybe we can begin to discover what is going on. I look forward to hearing back :smile:

    @littlebobbytables

    They may have misinformed me and confused me along the way. They told me that I had initially purchased the Pro version but now I see that it's 1Password 3

    This is the current version number that I have and am not able to update.

    Hi @salsero09‌

    It's going to sound like an odd question but are you sure you purchased 1Password from the Mac App Store? While I wasn't part of AgileBits at the time I've found a blog entry and the first version we submitted to the Mac App Store was supposedly v3.9. Given the version in that screenshot I can only assume you purchased directly from us.

    Do you still have the receipt/email at all? I'm not suggesting you post it here in the public forums but it could prove insightful if you do still have access.
