iCloud syncing with multiple accounts
Hello,
Here is what I am needing 1Password for in our business, please advise the best way. My boss has a Mac and will beusing the 1Password software on her computer, and possibly her iPhone. I am her employee and will only be using the app on my iPhone. How can we set it up so that she is the 'owner' of the vault and I am able to see what she adds to the company vault and add/edit things to the company vault from my phone? Should she buy one license and invite me to the company vault? Also, we would like to use iCloud to sync our accounts. Do I use my normal iCloud account on my phone and she uses her iCloud account on her Mac and we will be able to sync using different iCloud accounts?
Please advise what would be best for our situation. Should I (her employee) set up my own 1Password account and her just share the company vault with my over iCloud?

Hey Shannon
If she creates the vaults technically speaking she is the owner. But once she gives you access or anyone for that matter, everyone has full access etc. Once you are a member of the shared vault you both can see changes made by either one.
She doesn't need an additional license to be able to use additional vaults.
The downside to this is one fact about iCloud. * Currently iCloud syncing doesn't allow sharing of vaults. If this were your personal setup and only on your devices their would be no issues.
iCloud is tied to the users own personal account and has no way to share the data outside the users own devices. That leaves you using something like Dropbox for syncing.
For the record she can sync her primary (personal) vault with iCloud and doesn't have to make any changes. She would have to install and use Dropbox syncing for that secondary vault (work). This is assuming she has her personal vault setup as Primary.
I want go any further on this for the time being to let you digest some of the information. Feel free to ask any questions.
Wifi syncing is also an option if your not interested in Dropbox. You can get some more information on Dropbox and Wifi syncing here https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-mac-kb?v=5
One thing to remember about wifi is you have to be on the same wifi to sync. So if your needing syncing while out and about. That leaves Dropbox.

Hi @Shannon Tobler
I hope that @thightower's suggestions have helped you out here. I'll just add a bit of detail here.
How can we set it up so that she is the 'owner' of the vault and I am able to see what she adds to the company vault and add/edit things to the company vault from my phone?
We've got a great section in our User Guide outlining the process of creating and sharing a secondary vault: Multiple Vaults
Should she buy one license and invite me to the company vault?
1Password is sold on a per-user/per-platform basis. So, your boss will purchase a license for 1Password for Mac, and you each can download 1Password 5 for iOS on your iOS devices. The iOS app is available for free, with an In-App Purchase to unlock some premium features, like the ability to use multiple vaults.
Also, we would like to use iCloud to sync our accounts. Do I use my normal iCloud account on my phone and she uses her iCloud account on her Mac and we will be able to sync using different iCloud accounts?
As @thightower mentions above, iCloud sync is a bit restricted - there is no mechanism available for data to be shared between multiple AppleIDs, and it is currently only available for syncing the primary vault. The best solution for you here is for your boss to set up a secondary vault and share it with you via Dropbox. The instructions in the above link should walk you through the process - please let me know if you have any further questions!

Thank you for the help! I know the next question my boss will ask is, how secure is Dropbox? I realize that even if someone hacks the Dropbox account they would still need the 1Password password to access the information in the vault, is that correct? So really what I can tell her is that Dropbox is just the mechanism for syncing, and doesn't actually store any password or sensitive data?

There is a useful AgileBits blog post here called "Your Master Password is your defense from Dropbox breaches, real and imagined" which I think you'll find very helpful in reassuring your boss.

Hi @Shannon Tobler
Glad to have been helpful! The link Stephen_C posted to has some great information. The short answer is that the security of your 1Password data never depends on the security of the sync solution that you choose. :)
