Question please... I just signed up yesterday for 1Password 5 on my phone, and then last night on my Mac laptop with OSX 10.10.1
I'm using Dropbox to sync. I see that the things I entered yesterday on my phone, now appear on my laptop as "1 Password" as opposed to as "Primary." So, I guess it automatically created a second vault with the stuff I entered from my phone yesterday. That doesn't seem helpful to me as I don't intend to share with anyone, and it DOES seem like a potential pain as I try to figure out which vault my stored info is kept in... is there a way to merge them? Assuming I DON'T intend to share access, is there a benefit to having multiple vaults?

    Hi @doc3osh‌

I'm sorry that you're having trouble getting all your data sorted in 1Password. I'll need to confirm a few details first to ensure I have the right picture of your situation.

    • Do you have multiple vaults in 1Password on your laptop? You'll see more than one option in this menu at the top of the sidebar:

    demo data shown

    • Where is your most up-to-date data? (Which vault, which device)

Assuming I DON'T intend to share access, is there a benefit to having multiple vaults?

One of the major strengths of multiple vaults is sharing, so if you don't intend to share your data, you can likely keep things nicely organized using Folders, or Tags and Smart Folders and not worry about multiple vaults.

The one use you might have for a secondary vault is to archive items. If you have items that you don't really need anymore, but you don't want to fully delete, just in case, you could create an Archive vault, to keep those items saved, but away from the data that you need on a daily basis.
