Passwords end up in trash

Hi, I keep finding some of my passwords in the trash even though I have not moved them there. How are they ending up there? I'm on a Max OSX Yosemite using 1Password 5. Thanks!

    Hi @LaraH‌

I have a couple of questions

    • Are you syncing at all?
    • Are they Password items or Login items containing passwords?
    • Are they ones that are in use and shouldn't be residing in Trash?

It will help us understand what might be going on, certainly it sounds odd.

Hi, everything automatically syncs to my dropbox file.
They are login items containing passwords
They are ones that are in use and should not be in the trash.

Thanks for any help you can offer!

    Hi @LaraH‌,

Thanks for the additional info. If you look in the Logins category of the main 1Password app, do you also find copies of those Login items there? Basically, I'm wondering if you created more than one Login for those sites at some point, and had deleted the extra ones.

Or have you deleted folders from the 1Password app? If you deleted a folder that contained items, it would move those items to the Trash.

If you need to keep the Login items that you see in the Trash, select each one and click the Restore button at the bottom of the item details. Hopefully this helps, but please let us know if you have more questions about that.

    Hi,
No, there's no logins in the Login items section. That's what is so odd - they're actually being MOVED to trash, but I'm not moving them - so how are they getting there? I have to keep going into Trash and restoring them. Any idea how to prevent this in the future?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

    Hi @LaraH‌

It sounds like you're saying they're routinely being moved to Trash.

I'm wondering if syncing has gone wonky for reasons unknown so what I suggest is disabling Dropbox Sync and seeing if the issue persists or not.

To disable Dropbox Sync on your Mac enter 1Password's preferences and switch to the Sync tab. In there click the Change Syncing... button but don't tick the checkbox - no need to delete the .agilekeychain for the moment.

Now use 1Password as you would normally do. If you know 1Password has a tendency to exhibit this behaviour in certain conditions then please do that, try to force the issue. If 1Password continues to move your Login items to the Trash then we haven't isolated the problem. If 1Password starts behaving it would seem something has fouled up in the Dropbox sync. If it has we'll reset Dropbox Sync.

Please do let us know the results of that.
