Is my data on sync sites like Dropbox

I am syncing with Dropbox using 1Password Anywhere. My IT friend tells me that a copy of my data must be on Dropbox servers. I was under the impression that 1PW Anywhere was a conduit back to 1PW. That would of course put my data on your servers. So if I sync via a cloud site is my data necessarily there (as opposed to backing unto that site). Otherwise I will sync locally using wifi.

Your data is on the Dropbox server. However, it is encrypted. In fact, someone could steal your entire computer and, as long as you've kept your Master Password secret, they're not going to get anywhere with it.

@markrd, to add a bit more information to that: 1Password never sends your password data to us. By default, all your 1Password data is stored locally on your device/computer. If you choose to use the iCloud or Dropbox sync option in 1Password, an encrypted copy of your 1Password data will be saved to your iCloud or Dropbox account. Even if someone were to somehow acquire a copy of your 1Password data file, they wouldn't be able to open it without your Master Password.

We are very confident about storing 1Password data in the cloud, and we have information about the security of your 1Password data in the cloud here.

If you sync your 1Password data via Dropbox, then you can use the 1PasswordAnywhere feature, which allows you to view your 1Password data by logging into your Dropbox account from a web browser. We have more information here.
