Multiple Vault Passwords

Hi,

I've noticed that unlocking the primary vault also unlocks all other vaults at the same time. Does this mean that the passwords for the secondary vaults are stored somewhere inside the primary vault? If so, is there any way to access those passwords?

It seems redundant to keep a note with the passwords for my secondary vaults if they are already stored somewhere in the primary one.

Thanks!

I would be inclined to keep a note of them in the primary vault. There have been cases where people have shared secondary vaults and someone has forgotten the master password for the vault and...well, you get the picture. :) I guess if you don't share secondary vaults it's not so significant but there's something in my (reasonably) organised brain that says it's better to have a record of any secondary vault password.

That's what I'm currently doing; I have a note in my master vault with the passwords for my secondary vaults. It just feels redundant to do this if the passwords are already stored somewhere (invisible) in the master vault. It would be nice if 1Password could display the entries with the passwords for the secondary vaults somewhere.

That's a great suggestion! We've heard requests for a separate 'secondary vault passwords' category, and I'm happy to add your vote to the issue in our internal tracker.

I would like to add some suggestions to the multiple vaults section.

I would also like to see the passwords for the secondary vaults in the primary/master vault.

On the note of secondary vaults, I would like to suggest that the password for the secondary vault DOES NOT unlock the primary/master vault.

In team situations, other team members that are using shared secondary vaults will know the password for the secondary vault (if it is shared with them) and can use it to get at the data in the vault. With the current setup in 1Password, they will also get access to all the stored passwords in the other vaults. I still want to be able to use shared vaults but I am very skeptical about doing this in a work/team environment since I store personal information in my master vault.

  • Hi @icetre,

    Thanks for the feedback!

The master password of the secondary vault cannot unlock the primary vault.

When you unlock your primary vault, all secondary vaults are also unlocked. When you unlock a secondary vault, only that secondary vault is unlocked.

I see that this must have changed since the vaults first came out though I must have missed it in the changelog.

    Thanks for the update @JasperP

+1 for exposing secondary vault passwords somehow/somewhere in the primary vault. It would be very useful. I agree with @JoaoPinheiro‌ that being forced to manually store the secondary vault passwords separately in your primary vault is overkill/unnecessary.

  • @lenzb : I agree. It's something I hope we make better in a future release.
