1Password Mac does not sync up to 1Password iOS

Tried emailing tis issue to Support, but it's been a while with no response...hopefully it can be resolved here. I own 1Password for my Macbook Pro (10.9.5) and my iPhone 5 and iPad Air (iOS 8.1.2). When first purchased it, everything synced up great...I use iCloud for Sync. But recently I noticed my Macbook Pro does not update with my iOS devices. Both iOS devices sync up...but not the Mac. Maybe somewhere during updates something got screwy! How do I fix this? I have only one iCloud account and I tried re-setting the iCloud sync and deleting the data file as per in Support & FAQ.

    Hi @kevinh1847‌

First of all, apologies for the delay in responding to you. It might seem an exaggeration but we are still trying to cope from the massive surge in support requests since the release of iOS 8 and Yosemite. It's no word of a lie that our response times are not where we want them at the moment.

I have some bad news for you I'm afraid. As of iOS 8 (and Yosemite) iCloud has changed drastically. The first time you used iOS 8 you were probably asked if you wanted to upgrade to iCloud Drive. Well 1Password 5 (both iOS and Mac) make use of the new frameworks that come with the new iCloud and so for iCloud Sync to work it requires homogeny in the versions of 1Password. It's either all 1Password 4 or all 1Password 5 - you can't mix them when it comes to iCloud.

So it isn't anything you've broken or anything like that. Your only option for the moment is to change your sync method to either Wi-Fi Sync or Dropbox as both will work between versions 4 & 5 of 1Password.

Just to warn you as well. As of Yosemite Apple are restricting access to these new frameworks to applications purchased through their stores. That means that while iCloud Sync worked in 1Password 4 (Agile Web Store), as of 1Password 5 it only works in Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) version. So if you purchased 1Password directly from us even upgrading to Yosemite and running 1Password 5 wouldn't allow you to regain iCloud Sync.

Apple can be pretty aggressive when it comes to refreshing and they have a history of making tough calls if they think it's for the best. Sadly this is one of those times where they accept it makes it hard for some customers but feel this is the best way going forward.

If you have any questions from any of the please do ask.

Wait...maybe I wasn't clear enough with my versions. I DO NOT have Yosemite. I am running 10.9.5 Mavericks, and the 1Password on my Macbook is 1Password 4. Therefore, I believe Im not affected by the new iCloud. Or am I wrong???

    @kevinh1847‌

I understood that you're running 1Password 4 on Mavericks but you mentioned iOS 8 which led me to assume you're running 1Password 5 for iOS.

If this isn't the case and you can confirm you're running 1Password 4 for iOS then that would be different. You can tell which version you're running if you open 1Password on each iOS device and enter Settings. Down at the bottom of the Settings page but just above where it says Advanced (this may be different on an iPad) it should mention the version number.

Let us know what that says and we can take it from there.

Yes, my iOS devices are running 1Password 5

  • Hi @kevinh1847,

Unfortunately you are affected by the Yosemite/iOS8/iCloud Drive changes, even if you're still running 10.9 on your Mac.

1Password 4 for Mac and iOS used iCloud/MobileDocuments for iCloud Sync. 1Password 5 for Mac and iOS use iCloud/CloudKit for iCloud Sync. This means that 1Password 4 cannot sync with 1Password 5 via iCloud because they both use different technologies behind the scenes.

To sync between 1Password 4 and 1Password 5, your best bet is to use Dropbox.

    I hope this helps.

    Rick
