Do I really need to buy another 1Password?
I am a long-term user of 1Password, and have a family license for 5 pro. It is, however, from the Agilebits webstore and not the Apple App store, so it seems I can’t use iCloud to sync my devices. So I would like the Apple App store version, but it says I have to buy it again. This can’t be true. Please tell me how I can change to the app store version with my current license?
Thanks,

There is no automatic way of transferring your licence to allow you to use the Mac App Store version of 1P5. If you bought 1P5 from AgileBits within the past 30 days you can obtain a refund to enable you to buy the Mac App Store version.

Hi @robinboast
Stephen is correct, if you have purchased 1Password in the last 30 days you can always ask for a refund. I tried looking for a licence based the email address you're using in the forums but I couldn't find a record.
Although iCloud support in 1Password 5 is limited to the MAS version you always have Dropbox as an alternative. Now I know sync methods can be quite a polarising subject so it might be you have your strong reasons why Dropbox is not a candidate. let us know and we can continue the discussion.

Hi!
I feel the exact same way as the OG poster. Is there any way to credit our app store purchase? I can provide you with purchase email, license number, etc.
I have checked, and double checked, and no where on your site does it mention you have an app store version It just offers a download link, the leads you to try and purchase the webstore version. I would have gladly spent my money at the App Store to buy your excellent product if given the opportunity at first.
I like the app store version because it is easy. No passwords to remember, no activations emails, you just log into the app store and download.
I prefer the iCloud sync because its also easy, I already have iCloud setup on my various mac devices. I don't want dropbox on everything, you have to manage the dropbox space.Thanks.
(and no I bought my 1ps longer than 30 days ago).
Darrin.

Well, you might explain then what page you were viewing—because the one which has the link to purchase the AgileBits version looks (in part) like this:
(I don't work for AgileBits and am merely pointing out what I see on the site.)

Hi @Nomad76
Did you purchase 1Password back in February of last year? If you did then I'm sorry but we're unable to process refunds anywhere near that far back.
While Dropbox does require a Dropbox service to keep everything in sync this is no different from iCloud except that every Mac already has it installed. I'm not entirely sure I know what you're referring to when you say you have to manage your Dropbox space. Dropbox does also have advantages over iCloud but of course they may not be important to you. It has cross-platform support and the ability to share folders with other Dropbox users. As an example, if you use secondary vaults at all you would need to use Dropbox anyway.
I'm sorry it isn't better news but as Dave Teare explain in his announcement, iCloud Changes in the Website Version of 1Password 5 we're in a position where we're unable to help everybody the way we would like to. Sorry.

@Stephen I'm referring to the front page, and the 1 password page: https://agilebits.com/onepassword
It goes something like this: Goto the front page, Click on the 1 password link, End up on the 1 password page. I would have love to see buy on the app store on the 1 password landing page. Then I would have went directly to the app store and purchased it before downloading the web store version. I did not need to try it out first. I got the good recommendation from a work partner for 1password when I found the need to replace "wallet" (which is no longer being developed).
@littlebobbytables Yes. I did. Thank you for responding. Believe me, I"m not here to complain. You have a great product, and I love using it so much that I was actually considering buying it again to restore the iCloud function. I just thought I'd ask first.
Dropbox: I love drop box too. I've been a paying drop box member for years. But what I meant by manage is this: On my desktop, I have huge hard drives, and when I'm working on projects with others I might have some fairly large drop box folders. However on my laptop, the hard drive is not as big. If I use drop box as is, it will sync and use up all my hard drive space. So I have to go into the preferences and pick and choose which folders to sync. Which I can do, but more than often I just leave the drop box off, as I don't need it on my leisure computer. But on iCloud, that was never an issue. It just syncs no matter which computer I'm on (or apple device) as long as I'm logged in with my apple ID, without me having to also install and setup a dropbox folder.

But thanks anyway for your response. I understand the position you were put in as a company. Your news letter was well written and covered the topic thoroughly. I just thought I'd ask if there was a way to transfer my purchase. No worries, I'm still a happy customer.**0 -
You are welcome.
It is rare to come to a software support forum, and find so much support. "Team Members" actually respond to the post along side of users like Stephen. To receive an official response is impressive. So thank you too! That earned my good review on the App store.

Thanks so much for the kind words! :)

This is a response more for the Agile Bits team. I was one of the very first purchasers of 1Password, back when you were but a small startup. I would regularly discuss problems with the Agile Bits team via email. It was a great system that listened to its customers and helped them out. That is clearly no longer the case. I do not use DropBox as it is a very dodgy company, with very suspect political affiliations. I do not see why, as a license holder, I have to purchase a new version simply to function on my iOS devices as this was never the case.
As a result, I will cease to be a 1Password customer and will seek other solutions.

Remember that Agile were forced into the issue with iCloud sync, due to a change by Apple. Though I think they could have handled it better.
And, unless your issues are truly private, forums have the advantage of showing many users at once how to work with the problems, and the Agile people are regularly on the forums. Also they have indicated (though not said explicitly) that they may return to more support by email at a late date; for the moment one can start on the forums, and the discussion will be moved to email if appropriate.

Hi @robinboast
If you are indeed referring to iCloud support even Dave Teare himself has stated this isn't how he wanted things to go (see his announcement, iCloud Changes in the Website Version of 1Password 5 if you haven't already). The facility to transition even a small percentage of our users to MAS doesn't exist and it left us in a no-win situation. We didn't want to go annoy a portion of our loyal user base - it doesn't make sense to. Sadly we have to just push through this sad time.
With the release of 5.1 Wi-Fi Sync got a shot of steroids and can now sync secondary vaults. So if you use secondary vaults you now have two ways of syncing Macs and iOS devices. You've stated your displeasure of Dropbox but could Wi-Fi Sync be an acceptable alternative now with the recent improvements? I'm personally loving it.
As for the email aspect of your post. It would be great if we could reply promptly to every email that comes along but as support requests increased rapidly something had to be done. People were being forced to wait longer and longer and it wasn't fair. The hope is answering people here in the forums for the easier or more general stuff will allow others to see other replies. In the end we might be helping hundreds of users that don't even need to register to get the answer for their question. We can also easily refer to another thread if need be and it's public. I mean that in a good way in that you can see what we're saying. Anything that needs to be handled discretely or is rapidly turning out to be complex we can handle via emails but even with the forums we've been working hard for months to return to a reasonable response time for emails. As companies grow in size it's really hard to maintain things as they were but AgileBits really does do its best to try and keep that alive. Some things sadly do have to change when your user base increases as much as I suspect it has.
I hope you're willing to keep the dialogue going and that you haven't written us off just yet.
