Wifi sync for non-primary vault?!

I was so excited to finally install 1Password 5 on my Mac and start using the newest iOS version on our phones and iPads, so I could sync a secondary vault with my wife's iPhone. Now that I've done it, there seems to be no way to sync the secondary vault over wifi. I don't want to use dropbox or create a shared folder on our network because that creates just one more layer of security issues. Am I missing something? This seems like a pretty straightforward feature, so I'm not sure why I can't find it. If it isn't there yet, when can we expect it? I guess I also misunderstood how secondary vaults would work; I was hoping that they'd sync when the primary was updated, but I can live with that limitation. Thanks!

Quite soon, I suspect, as it's available in the 1Password for Mac current beta. I'm guessing (and it's purely a guess—I don't work for AgileBits) that new versions of 1P5 for Mac and 1P5 for iOS will be released in the reasonably near future and those versions will support wifi sync of secondary vaults.

We can't supply any timeline I'm afraid @petachya‌ but I believe the betas being tested at the moment are doing quite well.

I purchased the upgrade to "Pro Tools" from the iPhone primarily for this reason because it SAYS right on the screen that it supports multiple vaults. False advertising is DISHONEST, or did no one ever teach you folks that? Shame on you

I'm not quite sure what you're complaining about @threadhead because the ability to use wifi sync for multiple vaults has been available for some time since this thread was last active (i.e., before you posted to it). If you have some specific problem with multiple vaults and wifi sync I suggest you elaborate it a little more clearly so someone can help you.

iPhone6 running with Mac OSX 10.9.5. When syncing, it issues an alert saying

"The operation couldn't be completed. (com.agilebits.onepassword.ErrorDomain error 7022) Syncing with non-primary vaults is not supported"

  • @threadhead,

I'm sorry for the trouble, but the problem is that you do not currently meet the system requirements for this feature. In order to sync non-primary vaults you'd need the latest version of 1Password for Mac which is 5.3.1 as of writing. This version requires OS X 10.10.

    Thanks.

That means an upgrade of the OS to Yosemite then?

    Hi @threadhead,

Yes, the ability to sync multiple vaults via Wi-Fi was added in 1Password 5, and 1Password 5 for Mac requires Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite), so you would need to upgrade your Mac to Yosemite (which is free from Apple), and then install the update for 1Password 5 for Mac (which is also free if you have a license for 1Password 4 for Mac).

If you aren't able to upgrade to Yosemite, unfortunately you won't be able to sync your secondary vaults via Wi-Fi, because 1Password 4 for Mac is only able to sync the Primary vault via Wi-Fi. However, you can sync your secondary vaults using Dropbox sync.

I'm very sorry for any confusion about that! If you need more help to sync your secondary vaults, or if you have other questions, please don't hesitate to ask - we're always happy to help! :)

    Hi @threadhead,

I sincerely apologize for any confusion, I know it can be frustrating to find out certain features aren't included in previous versions of an app - especially if you aren't able to install the newest version. If you feel we have any incorrect or misleading information in any of our product descriptions, please do let us know where, as we would definitely want to correct that.

We're here for you if you need anything else!

The in app purchase on the iPhone is the only way I saw to purchase the ProTools for $10 and there was no mention of a requirement for Yosemite

Thanks @threadhead, we do appreciate the feedback!

To be fair, Yosemite isn't a requirement for the iOS version of 1Password or the Pro Features, and it isn't a requirement for Wi-Fi sync. Yosemite is a requirement for the Mac version of 1Password 5 for Mac. Support for syncing multiple vaults via Wi-Fi was added to 1Password 5 for Mac, but support for syncing the Primary vault via Wi-Fi sync is in 1Password 4 for Mac (which requires OS X 10.8 or 10.9), 1Password 4 for Windows (which requires Windows 7 or higher), and 1Password 4 for iOS (which requires iOS 6 or 7).

My point is simply that the purpose of the Pro Features page in 1Password 5 for iOS is to show a list of features included with that in-app purchase. It's not really a good place to list system requirements for other versions of 1Password on other platforms. Also, Wi-Fi sync isn't mentioned on that screen either, because it's not a Pro Feature. On the other hand, support for syncing multiple vaults is a Pro Feature, and therefore is listed there. However, not all versions of 1Password for other platforms are going to be compatible with all of the features in 1Password 5 for iOS.

Now, having said all that, I absolutely agree that figuring out the compatibility of different features in different versions on different platforms can get to be fairly confusing (to put it mildly), and that's the kind of information that we'd like to make more accessible and easier to find. We've made some huge improvements to our online documentation in the past year, and we're trying to make even more improvements to that.

Again, I'm really sorry for the confusion about that! If you need any help to set up Dropbox sync for your secondary vaults, or if you need help with anything else, please let us know. :)
