Dropbox syncing is not working

I have a shared dropbox folder for my wife and myself for all of our computers/devices. I can't get syncing to work. I've even tried disabling/reenabling syncing in 1Password on all of the affected devices. Nothing. Is there a solution for this? I seem to have recurring syncing issues with each major version of 1Password and its really getting frustrating...

    Hi @uberspeck,

I'm sorry Dropbox sync isn't working correctly for you!

To help us figure out what's going on, can you please let us know some more details:

    • What devices/computers are you syncing (or trying to sync) with 1Password?
    • What version of 1Password are you using on each device/computer?
    • What OS version is running on each device/computer?
    • Is Dropbox sync working in 1Password on any of the devices/computers?
    • Is Dropbox sync currently set up in the sync settings of 1Password on all devices/computers?
    • What device/computer has all your latest 1Password information?
    • Do you receive any error messages? If so, what do they say?
    • What is the exact name & location of your keychain file in Dropbox?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for responding @Drew_AG,

    • Two MacBook Pros (running Mavericsk) and one iPhone (iOS 8.1.2)
    • The laptops are using 1Password 5.2, the iPhone is up to date from the AppStore
    • If I unlock/lock 1Password on the devices they all tell me last synced n seconds ago and count up (no errors)
    • Dropbox sync is set up on all devices
    • /Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain

After all that I have the most up to date version of our Hulu account on my wife's MacBook. An outdated version of it on my iPhone and no Hulu account information at all on my MacBook. I've tried disabling/reenabling Dropbox syncing on all devices (with no errors) and they still aren't in sync.

  • Hi @uberspeck‌,

Does syncing work at all between any of the devices?

You say that your Macbook Pros are running Mavericks, and 1Password 5. But 1Password 5 doesn't work on Mavericks (it's Yosemite-only). Can you double check those versions?

This may sound like an odd question, but are you sure that /Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain is part of the shared dropbox folder for you and your wife?

Can you use 1PasswordAnywhere to see if any edits are making their way to the AgileKeychain file in Dropbox? This is a very useful way to see what's going on with Dropbox Sync. You can use 1PasswordAnywhere by following the instructions on this page. Do an edit of an item on a device, and then check it in 1PasswordAnywhere a few seconds later (give it time to make its way to Dropbox). This will tell you which devices are able to write to the agilekeychain. From there we can see which devices are having trouble pulling the data down and can determine what's going on.

    I hope this helps.

    Rick

Sorry, that was a brain fart. I'm running Yosemite everywhere.

Yes, /Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain is in my Dropbox and I've shared it with my wife (she has edit privileges).

Yesterday, I went through all of our devices and disabled syncing and reenabled it again. This time our laptops seemed to start syncing but I couldn't get my iPhone to sync. I checked again this morning and it's finally synced. The delay was a few hours at the very least. Not exactly ideal.

Thank you for the 1PasswordAnywhere suggestion. I'll do some tests with that and see how it goes.

Ok, this is starting to make me a little insane. 1Password is telling me I have a different count of login items on different devices and that count changes wildly in 1PasswordAnywhere when a single change is made. To start I had...

    • 128 login items on my MacBook
    • 129 login items on my wife's MacBook
    • 141 login items on my iPhone
    • 141 login items in 1PasswordAnywhere on my MacBook

I just made a small change to one login item on my MacBook and the change was propagated to all devices, but now the count is the following...

    • 128 login items on my MacBook
    • 129 login items on my wife's MacBook
    • 141 login items on my iPhone
    • 128 login items in 1PasswordAnywhere on my MacBook

The fact that it's syncing is nice, but having different record counts in all places is very unnerving. Any ideas?

Just tried to sync up my iPad...it thinks there are 160 login items...WTF?

If I may inject some info into this discussion, I can think of three scenarios:

    1. You have more than one 1password.agilekeychain files on DropBox. This might explain why the iPad has more items - it may be syncing to a different file. This wouldn't explain the mismatches on the other devices though. Let us know if this is the case.
    2. There are some sync conflicts with trashed items that aren't propagating to the other devices. This might explain the count mismatch. Look in the 1Password trash on your Mac and see if those items are on iOS. If you are comfortable doing so, empty the 1Password trash on the Mac, verify the sync went through, then do a manual sync on the iOS devices. Check the counts again. Let us know how this goes.
    3. Check to make sure your DropBox isn't close to being full. If it is, some devices may be able to sync properly, but some may not. Again, let us know if this is the case.

Sorry I don't have a final solution (yet). Just trying to collect a little more information to get this fixed as soon as possible.
