Neeb question, switching primary device

So today I installed 1password pro on my iPhone before realizing in my case it would be better to have installed it on my Mac. Then I ended up buying the $49.99 app for my Mac and now the one on my iPhone is showing up as the primary and it won't let me sink the devices. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks

Can you let us know what method you are using to sync your devices? Dropbox? iCloud? WiFi? Folder Sync?

iCloud. On my Mac I went to 1password preferences menu, I choose sync but it doesn't have anything stating its the primary vault like the user guide describes but on my iPhone it states its the primary. Is there any way to switch this?

Ok forgive me, I didn't sync my iPhone until now and now all the data has transferred. Now my only question is, does it matter which device claims to be the primary? Did I need to buy the $9.99 app for my iPhone as well as the $49.99 for my Mac or did I just spend more money than necessary?

Rest easy about your purchases. The licenses are sold on a per-platform basis, so if you want to sync between a Mac (one platform) and iPhone (second platform), you need both.

And no worries about which device is primary. With syncing, there isn't a primary device. Where ever you make a change, it will automatically be reflected on the other.

I hope you find your combination as useful as I have.

  • Hi @bugkiller,

"Primary" vault is a device-specific concept. Each device will have a primary vault. If you're syncing via iCloud, this means both devices have a primary vault, and that they're hooked up to the same iCloud account. Sounds like you did it right.

It's possible that you didn't need to buy 1Password Pro for iOS. This page describes the features that have been enabled as a result of getting Pro on iOS.

    I hope this helps.
