Is this possible or should I be worried?

One of my logins in 1password somehow changed to all Xs (i.e. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX) instead of the actual password.
Can you please explain exactly what you mean by that.
- If you copy and paste the password into Notepad does the correct password appear or is it all Xs?
- If you go to 1P and look at the item in the main app then press and hold the ⌥ key does the correct password show, or is it all Xs?

Copying and revealing the password both showed all Xs instead of what was supposed to be the password. I noticed because one of my logins was failing, so I checked the password and it was just a long string of Xs.

That is very strange and I can't think how it could have happened. However, I have two suggestions which might help:
- If you go to that item in the main app is there a field towards the bottom of the item (in the right hand pane) that says show previously used passwords? If so, you should be able to click on that and find the original password.
- If that doesn't help you could also look in the Passwords category to see if there is a generated password saved there for the relevant site. That category stores generated passwords not specifically linked to saved login items so it's a bit of a long shot suggestion, I'm afraid,

I already reset the password in question, so that's fine. I'm just worried because I can't account for how it changed.

Hi @davidkma,
I've seen this kind of thing happen before, and it wasn't caused by 1Password. In the case that I saw it, it was a website that had non-standard login fields, that would replace what I provided them with after I had finished typing with different characters (********) and would copy the actual password I gave them somewhere else so that they could do authentication with it. Basically someone was re-inventing the password field wheel.
I don't think you should be worried about 1Password, but you'll likely want to remember that the website associated with this specific item, and check to make sure things still make sense if you update the login item from the browser extension as the website may have swapped the data out such that we can't get it anymore.
