Password Generator and Symbols

This is a feature idea.

Some websites require strong passwords, but don't accept all the symbols 1P uses during password generation. It doesn't make much sense to cripple 1P, however, it would be very helpful to add a button to the password generator. Something like this:

When you click on the 1P button in the browser toolbar and select "Password Generator", a "regenerate" button inside the password input would be nice, clicking it would simply generate a new password and thus you could skim through password candidates until a suitable one is generated. Here's a mockup:

Thanks for considering this small addition!

    Hi @svoop‌

I've submitted your request to our tracker. Now I can't promise anything but I do get what you're after. I find the sites with odd requirements very annoying.

I have faced lack of this feature today. My idea is that apart of refresh button there should be additional two text fields: avoid symbols, allowed symbols. First field should have button "clear" and second one should have button "all"

@PLMan‌ Too many buttons might bloat this dialog. I'm usually just manually remove the symbols from the generated password input which is faster than changing the settings slider below. The reload button on the other hand is just a quick helper in case you don't like the generated password for any reason - not just symbols and numbers.

So if you need to generate password which is 20 characters long and has at least 5 symbols for 5 accounts then you spend much more time and you have no password generator history, right? If you will join it with not so rare situation when 1P doesn't prompt for save login/update password in existing login then the situation is quite risky.
As situation with symbols is not limited just to few sites then it should be maintained by Password Generator.

    Hi @PLMan‌ and @svoop‌

This is something we're deliberating. We want to make the Password Generator powerful and adaptable yet it has to be simple. We'll continue to mull this over until we're happy we've achieved our goal. It's tricky though. I have complete faith though that whatever we do it will allow us to create complex passwords.

@littlebobbytables‌ I'm looking forward to what you'll be coming up with. (By the way: The concept of "click until you like the generated password" is not new, it's how the 1P application is currently designed, but the browser window doesn't feature this behaviour.)

And this generates a lot of history in password generator which is just garbage...

Not really. When you hit the "combination lock" button in the 1P app several times, no history is kept. And I don't see why you would do it any different for the proposed reload button which essentially does the same thing.
