1Password Mini not finding all items

1Password Mini, in some cases, does not find all items containing the search term. It also appears that 1Password Mini does not search within the notes field of a record.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour? Any fixes?

The default is to search title and fillable URLs. If you click on the gear icon at the right hand end of the search field you can select Search All Fields.

I've actually noticed the same problem, and I think it's been going on for a while, but it was only today that I had a chance to look into it a bit further.

Clearly, something is wrong in the screenshot below...

I've restarted all of the pieces, and my entire Macbook, and I've tried the "Optimize Database" option. Can't find anything else that looks like it would help, unless there's some hidden reindexing option I've missed.

I should note that the "iLounge Twitter" entry doesn't come up in searches for "iLounge" or "Twitter" either.

    Hi @jhollington,

The first thing that pops into my mind with that screenshot is to edit the item in question and see what the display field is set to. I suspect instead of being set to Always, the default, it is currently set to Never display in browser. If I'm correct, changing it back to the default will return the search behaviour back to what you expect.

    Hi @littlebobbytables,

Thanks for the quick response. That was indeed the problem, and having used 1Password for years, for me that setting dates back to when it was all about browser extensions and 1Password mini didn't exist. Hence, it never occurred to me that the "Never Display in Browser" setting would affect the ability to specifically search for the item in 1Password mini.

That said, I'm not really sure this is intuitive or even helpful behaviour -- in the very least the "Display" option should be changed to something more accurate, but realistically, just because I don't want the item presented in an autofill (i.e. CMD+\ ) doesn't mean I don't want to be able to search for it specifically during those times that I actually do want to use it.

    Hi @jhollington,

Personally I've never used the display setting. Now it doesn't mean maybe lots of our users don't find it extremely useful but I've never really found a use for it in my particular work style. It sounds like it's the same for you.

So you'd rather see an option where an item can be flagged from being used in the Fill Login on current web page feature ⌘\ but still accessible if you bring up the 1Password mini option?

    Hi @littlebobbytables,

That pretty much describes it, which is basically the way it originally worked, because the only place you could find it outside of the actual 1Password app was in the browser extension.

I have almost all secondary/alternate logins that I store flagged as "Never display in browser" because it simply allows me to skip a step when I hit ⌘+\ and fill the primary login directly, rather than having to choose from a menu. For those rare times I want to use the secondary account, I simply go into 1Password, look it up, and copy the password via the clipboard. It's a reasonable tradeoff, since I'm almost always only logging in with my primary account.

So yes, blocking it from being filled on login would be the primary goal for my use case, and that's still sort of what "Never Display in Browser" means to me, but that might simply be habit from the fact that I've been using 1Password since about 2007 :)

    Hi @jhollington,

Thanks for explaining your thoughts. We do agree we need to simplify this further and reword this to something like Exclude from automatic filling/Exclude from 1Password mini or something better.

I'll add your feedback to our tracker as we do have an open improvement request for this.

@glenn_s, did you see the posts above about your missing items, it might be set to not show up in 1Password mini via the Never Display in Browser option.

A custom search for [Is not] [Shown in brower], that can optionally be saved as a smart folder, is a convenient way to locate items with the display option set to Never display in browser.
